Is it normal i have a better life than most of you

I'm 35 and have never had to work a full time job. I sit around my mother's house most of the time, playing video games or occasionally disappearing to the bar closest to my house. I don't even get charged rent, so I am able to save a fuckton of the money I make through my part-time gig (over 100g in the bank - you'll never hear me complain about money troubles!). I can afford the best in booze, the most comfy of blankets, nice shoes, and yearly vacations to foreign countries. If my mother died tomorrow, I would inherit the house (totally paid off) and about 50g, to say nothing of the life insurance policy. I've never worked hard a day in my life. Convince me that this life isn't better than yours.

So how is your life better than someone else's if they are content & happy with themselves while you may have more material goods but have a need to let others know about it?

    • I'm just bragging about how awesome my life is compared to yours. You are likely bitter, paying rent to some intransigent, unreasonable landlord somewhere while scrimping just enough dough at your menial job to purchase something to eat besides ramen for a change. I'll bet you've worn the same shoes for at least 2 years, and your idea of a vacation (assuming you get one) is calling in sick because your sleep-paralysis demon has kept you from getting a full 3 hours of sleep (which would be 8 if your crippling anxiety centered around your job didn't keep you up the other 5). Hit me with your best shot.

Yeah actually you’re wrong about all of that. I own my home, I make a decent amount so I’m not “scrimping” and I have two kids and a significant other all while Not living or mooching off anyone, especially my own mom. So just because I’m not sitting here claiming to be living “better” than anyone one person. I’m just grateful for where I’m at in life. Enjoy your mooching my dude - sounds like you’re such a stand up dude, let me tell ya 👍🏼

Thumbs up to dbags trying to act like they’re better than everyone. Again, you’re so loud.

Correct. And just having money is not success nor does it lead to any real satisfaction in life.

Napoleon Hill listed the 12 Riches of Life in his book "The Master-Key To Riches"

Money is only a part of the 12th item listed.

Also, if you master most of the other 11 you will have all the money you ever need as money flows to the truly successful like water. The people who have achied that do not have empty lives and rarely say much about how much money they have.

Why would anyone want to live like you? Just wasting away the short time we all have in this lifetime.

Do you have a life? People who bring value to the world are probably a lot happier than you are, regardless of whether or not your life is "easier."

You sound narcissistic as well, thinking everybody cares how great your life is.

You're assuming a lot about everyone here. I bet you have no friends, and your mom is shameful of the useless child she raised.

          2. Who cares if I'm narcissistic? I believe I have reason.

          3. Completely inaccurate - I have friends I see at the bar, and my mother has long discouraged me from moving out, because she tends to like my company.

      • Mini69

So apart from playing mind numbing computer games, and getting drunk with the local down and outs that you like to consider to be your friends, what do you do with your time? What charities do you actively get involved with? What real hobbies do you have? What activities do you and your ‘friends’ get up to in all this spare time you obviously have? What do you do to help people in your local community? What good do you bring to the world?
If you can provide good honest answers to all those questions, that will demonstrate you are doing worthwhile things for the greater good. Then I will believe that you have a good life. Other than that, I will have to continue to consider you to be the worthless, pathetic, little mummy’s boy that you are.

Nah thanks: booze isn't great for my skin, spending all day every day at home would make me feel lonely and disconnected from the world (even with 'bar breaks'), holidays abroad are senseless without a reason to go or someone to go with (and that would probably be the case if I spent my life between my home and the bar), and I don't want to think about what'll happen when my mum dies.

Also, I kinda like my job.

    Comment Hidden ( show )

    • 1. because of my stress-free life, the damage that alcohol does to my skin is fairly minimal, I'd say.

      2. Human interaction is too much hassle.

      3. Holidays don't require a purpose - that's why they're nice!

      4. At least you outlived her, and not the other way around. That's probably how I'd feel.

      5. Well, good for you. But if I had to wake up and answer to someone else every freaking day? Omg, I'd fucking hate that!

Great that you have a good life, man. I’ll write about mine so you have something to compare with.

I’m 30 years old, single, residing in Copenhagen and I hold a M.Sc in CS & Engineering specialized in embedded systems (a specialization that isn’t relevant to my current field of work).

I started my career by working my ass off as an Accenture consultant. It’s a great steppingstone, but instead of waiting for promotions, I swapped to the client side after 2 years. Since the client had been paying consultancy rates for 2 years to keep me, I had very high negotiation grounds and literally doubled my salary when switching over. That switch made me earn more and the client pay less by getting rid of the man in the middle.

I stayed at the client for 3 years and recently (last year) swapped to a competitor for a 15% raise. Awesome working conditions, great work life balance and a fat paycheck.

Living at home with your mom? I bought a 2.7 million DKK apartment in town and it’s already paid off.

Like your freedom? I bought a brand new 550k DKK car last year, cash.

Major savings in the bank? Atm, I have over 1 million DKK sitting in my bank account.

    1 euro ≈ 7.5 DKK
    1 usd ≈ 6.5 DKK

Like your slack lifestyle? I work 37h per week, mostly from home. I only turn up on-site once per week.

Well, buddy. Glad that you like your lifestyle! I don’t intend to step on your toes with my post. Just highlighting that your standing highly depend on your environment. There are a lot of highly educated people out there who has achieved what I have achieved and more. In Copenhagen, people won’t even lift an eyebrow for my financial situation. In your case, most people would think that you’re weird for living with your mom. Dude, how do you even get privacy?

Hang in there. I'm a retired missile engineer worth $1.9M (12.4 million DKK). I've traveled all over the world on engineering projects, worked with software engineers in many countries, and given my family an enriched life experience few families have.

You would understand what I'm talking about. The OP will never have a clue.

You are so dumb. You don’t even know what life is because you don’t live it.

My mum died when I was 14, I never knew my father, apparently he was a low life piece of scum who walked out on my mother for getting pregnant after he forced himself on her when he was drunk.

Out of desperation and becoming homeless I ended up working as a topless waitress in a strip club, and then progressed to pole dancing where everything came off except my thong and shoes, or in the case of a private room dance the thong came off too. Unlike many of my fellow dancers who invested much of their income in drugs and alcohol, I invested in property. Many in society consider what I did to earn money means I am some sort of low life slut. The fact is I did what I needed to do to survive. 10 years later I had amassed a healthy property portfolio and gave up working the clubs. That was over 20 years ago, I now own several properties totalling a value of somewhere between 4 and 5 million pounds. I live in the UK. I pride myself on charging my tenants slightly below the market value of similar rentals in the same area. I also employ a maintenance team and pride myself on a high standard of maintenance for all my flats and houses. I could sell my empire tomorrow and live a life as worthless as yours and never have to worry about money until the day I die. Instead I fund 3 homeless shelters, each with a soup kitchen, and 4 other soup kitchens all in communities around or close to the areas I own property. I’m always happy to get involved with local charities and hope to continue doing good in the wider community for many years to come.

For all the hardships I have faced in my life, and there have been plenty, especially in my youth, I would not change any of it(except loosing my mother so young). But all that has happened to me has made me the woman I am today. I’m far from perfect, but I wouldn’t trade my life for a pathetic mummy’s boy lifestyle like yours in a million years.
