Is it normal i have delusions

I've had them ever since I was young, I see things that no one else can and voices talk to me in my head but they don't say anything bad most of them are pretty friendly.

I've thought about going to a doctor about it but I'm scared they will put me in a asylum (even though im not violent and the voices dont tell me to do bad things)

Unless you're violent to others or suicidal, it's extremely unlikely you'll be put in an asylum. We're living in the 21st century, we don't lock mentally ill people up and throw away the key anymore. They're not going to lock you up for this.

You need to listen very closely to me right now.
Schizophrenia advances much faster, and becomes much more severe, when left untreated. Treatment can slow it down exponentially. If you have it, you need to treat it. Don't listen these idiots, you're not going to be locked up.
See a doctor and be honest with him, it's in your best interest.

  • I've told therapists some crazy shit and they never put me away.
You have to be a danger to yourself or others and in most places you have to actually commit a crime to be put away.

It's certainly not something most people have, but it's not like you'd get locked up for this. That only happens if you're a danger to yourself or others.
You could get help though, if the delusions and hallucinations are bothering you in any way. There are medications that don't have many side effects and could make them go away so you can be more 'normal'. But if they're not bothering you in any way, you don't need to do that.

I don't understand the bit about voices talking in your head but not saying anything? Is it in another language or just gibberish?

It doesn't sound as if it's a negative thing, but by all means see a therapist if you feel you need to. I don't know the situation where you live, but bugsforbreakfast has a point: you could check first that your consultations are definitely confidential. I'd think most places a therapist wouldn't be able to pass on any of that info or act on it unless you were dangerous to yourself or others.

    • oh i meant they do talk to me, but they don't say anything violent like burn down a house or kill someone or whatever, they kind of just comment on the things i do everyday and sometimes ask questions and stuff. sometimes there really quiet and sometimes there really talkative, it really depends what mood their in. there actually really nice though, when i'm down they'll cheer me up.

i don't think i need to see a therapist, even if they do get a bit annoying sometimes i'll ask them to be quiet and they'll quiet down.

You do realise it's not "they" but your own mind speaking depending on what sort of a mood YOU are in? A bit like talking to yourself except not out loud?

It doesn't sound like anything to worry about: I used the "shut up I'm not listening to you" technique when I gave up smoking so I wouldn't listen to the addiction telling me it would be ok to have just one puff off someone else's smoke or just one whole smoke. It worked ..... well, that and other things

        • i'm pretty sure it's not my mind talking to me, sometimes i'll have more than one voice talking to me and their personalities and opinions aren't mine.

If that's what you believe is happening then sorry, but you do need therapy. If it's not your own mind talking to you, who is?

Institutions aren't such bad places. I know a few people who lead very productive lives in institutions, cutting out paper dollies and doing crossword puzzles all day long.

as long as you test and question the delusions and can still realize they're delusions you don't want to see a professional. stay away from any dr your not getting drugs from and don't get yourself locked up forever.
