Is it normal i keep finding this cat at night?

I have seen this cat on a few different streets. I always notice it running by as its a creamed colored cat and I tried to pet it a few times. However, usually it runs away. The other night I got to pet it. It saw my bike pass and I stopped. It had stopped behind a vehicle. I feel like maybe it was attempting to hide hoping I missed it. I parked my bike and came around the vehicle and said hello. I slowly coaxed it out so I could pet them. I managed to stroke its tail and after a little bit of examining me it let me pet it. It started stroking all over me and puring and than stroked all over the bike. I seen this cat a few times as it seems to be around the route I take home. However this cat only comes out between 10PM-1130PM at night which is around the times I come home. It also never moews. It was sitting in front of a house and it looked clean but it had no collar. So I not sure if it was owned. After petting it some I left to go home. It didnt follow me just sat where I had pet it and watched me leave. However it seemed to stare me straight in the eye like it wanted something. Like it was telling me something. It just watched as I left. Its so strange.

The lack of collar means nothing.

I've shared my home with several cats over the years, and I stopped putting collars on them after seeing how one reacted when it was squeezing through somewhere and the collar got snagged. Rather than gently backing out, it panicked when it felt something grip tight around its neck, thrashed around and got itself even more entangled. Cats aren't bright enough to figure out how to deal with a snagged collar, and they regularly poke around in tight places and go up trees which have lots of snag-hazards.

This is why good cat collars always have a section that's elastic. That supposedly allows enough give for the cat to extract itself if it gets snared, but I've never trusted that theory.

In any case, I've never felt a need to put a marker on our cats showing that they're owned, mainly because I've never really believed that I do actually own them. They've all seemed happy enough to hang out with me, but I know that's only because I've provided a warm, safe environment, and a regular supply of food and attention.

I'm the same way. I won't put a collar on my cat because I know she would hang herself from something.

I have a stray as a pet and that's how she would probably act. She's clean too with no collar. Someone probably takes care of that cat.

    • You all are making me feel better about this situation. I kind of thought it might belong to someone. Either way I was happy I finally got to pet them. I havent seen them since that night. They were a very sweet cat.

Sounds like it might be a stray cat.

    • I feel like it needed something. The way it was looking at me was saying something.

Wanted food most likely. Bring it some wet food. Its only like 50 cents at the store.

        Did it look pregnant?

That is a terrible idea. If it’s a stray, it’s not house trained and you’ll have a grown ass cat pissing, shitting and doing god knows what else in your house.

If it’s not a stray, it’s someone else’s outside cat.

We have an outside cat here that lives under the neighbors house. We both have cat houses in our yards for him. We call him Loki and they call him prince. If you want to help, put a house out for him (someone that walks past the house gave us a Rubbermaid with a whole cut in it, pretty clever) and give him some food and fresh water in the summer.

I dunno, I'd have to see the cat, but I remember this pregnant stray cat following me when I was walking, and she would come to our door. We would leave food, and water out for her, but I didn't take her in, because when I let her in my apartment she hissed at my Siamese cat, and I don't want anyone coming into his space, and trying to take over. I would love a gentle, friendly dog, and or another friendly, gentle Siamese cat like my dude, Andrew.
