Is it normal i liked history and english class but hated science and math?

Throughout my school life I loved English and history. I'm an aspiring author and I find a lot of inspiration in them. I usually hated math and science classes, they were always really complicated and confusing. Yet for some reason I seem to be the opposite of everyone around me. I always heard kids say they loved science and hated English and history (although there were a few who agreed with me on math). I even remember when I was in 9th grade having a conversation with my barber where she asked me my favorite class and said history, and she told me most people hated history, herself included, but people liked science class (ironically I did kind of like science that one year, it was biology, the only science that I could even come close to grasping!) I'm fine with whatever you're interested in, but to me it's like everyone enjoys really confusing mind games to fascinating stories, and I just don't get it.

Physics is proper science for boys.

        • I'm a boy and like biology and hate physics. In fact physics was one of the types of sciences most agreed with me on.

I am of course joking on both counts. Using a sexist stereotype to tease biologists and sexists in a feeble attempt at humour.

I like history and reading everything. That does not mean I liked history class, or English. I didn't like the conformist answers many teachers seemed to seek for assignments. It was annoying having to parrot whatever my teachers (later, college professors) thought to be true. You're fortunate if you have not come across such a narrow-minded teacher yet. History and literature are greatly subjective arenas.

For school purposes, I liked science and math just for the sake of it being objective. Teachers cannot claim your answers to ever be wrong based on their perception. Exams for science and math are relatively easy to to me, not that I get an A every time, but I rarely ever score below a B. I've always made A's for any writing class. I just hate having to tune out my creative side to write however the teacher prefers.

I think it's awesome you like to write, and want to be an author. If you like coming up with stories, or any kind of writing, just do it. Don't know if you've ever done screenwriting? It's always possibly lucrative. Just look up Shonda Rhimes, the screenwriter for Grey's Anatomy. Or, look at the popularity of Steven King's novels. There's the obvious biggie being J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter). There's all kinds of writing though. Copywriting is an option. Songwriting is another. Tons of journalist options exist for writers.

If you write well, and want an underground job, off the books? There's quite a market for ghostwriting gigs, lol.

Speaking of history? Um, historical fiction, yeah! :-) I'm so into this Outlander series.

    • Interesting recommendations. I've actually made a collection of books to study from to see how the art of story telling has grown. HP is of course among them.

That's very normal, in fact most people have a preference for either humanities (History, philosophy, literature etc) or for science-y subjects (which includes Maths).

It's the way your brain is. There's only a few subjects that really overlap humanities with sciences, Geography is probably the best example.

I think people tend to like different bits of Geography depending on which type of brain.. As a kid I always loved the maps and the rocks but drifted off after about ten seconds of farming patterns!

Yeah that is true, I'm a student a Geography and I've seen most people prefer either the physical/science-y aspect of it or the more societal/human aspect. I'm one of those people who actually likes both pretty equally, which seems to be a small minority in my experience.

It's odd because usually I'm not a science-y person, I'm more into my humanities. I love history, literature and arts, I was crap at science (outside of physical geography) and maths at school.

It is normal to be mathematically deficient. In many ways, poverty is a tax on people like you. Flip burgers at McDonalds for your entire life. Get used to low income lifestyles and short horizons.

Funny, most people I know are the exact opposite. I like science and math and most people I know either prefer English and history, or just hate everything (with a few exceptions here and there)

math and science are the main course . history and english are the dessert. you are just a spoiled brat that pushes to the side something that fuels the body for crap that is sweet. A real student loves it all. you are no student. you will wind up a sad old teacher babysitter someplace instead of a person that made a difference to the species.
