Is it normal i love playing guitar but i find basics tedious?

I don't like practicing basics. Going over and over the same exercise is tedious. I want to play songs, music. I have learnt scales, chords and playing solo for 10 songs and I play better than average but all the famous guitarists say that sticking to basics is best.
Is there a way to keep improving while I could skip the basics.??

If you want to be virtuoso shredder, then scales and exercises are important.
But if you just want to be a good rock guitarist, then you can learn a lot just by learning and playing the songs and music that you like.

Learning scales is still good for improvisation, but running up and down them is kinda pointless (unless you're working on speed).

You could get a book on blues guitar playing. It still involves scales etc but its more interesting and can really help with your ability to improvise and write your own riffs.

No. You'll notice that almost all of the great rock and folk songs have a pretty basic chord structure: C, D, Am, G, Em. I found that the constant repetition of the finger movements of these basic chords were very helpful when it came to my fingering of the more complicated bar chords. But isn't guitar playing such a total joy? Glad you are getting into it. And guess what? You never stop learning new things. So keep on truckin' dude!
