Is it normal i'm afraid to use soap in case i get an infection?

I have heard that using soap down there can cause a U.I ?? I'm 22f and I feel I haven't really been washing properly down there...
I usually just use a bit of soap on the surface when I'm in the shower ? Am I washing incorrectly? Would like some decent advice please? No time wasters who are going to make a joke about it. TIA

I don't know where you "heard" this but either you weren't listening properly or someone was talking rubbish.

Urinary infections aren't caused by soap and as paulthepoes said, you're more likely to get a yeast (or other) infection of your genitals if you don't wash yourself properly. Didn't your mother teach you how to do this?

I'd stay away from scented soaps, just use a plain one, and make sure you rinse thoroughly. If you're a girl I hate to think what you must smell like during and after your period if you're not using soap.

    • Thanks for this elaborate response!! Yes, of course I use soap just more so on the outside. Now I know how to properly clean down there :)
I've never really paid attention or asked for that matter, out of embarrassment. Thanks :)

I am afraid to say if you don`t wash properly "down there" you are more likely to get a yeast infection!

Do you have guys who are willing to go "down there?"

Never say never my friend, I'll bet you'd love it if you tried it. Sad that you feel so yucky about your own body - who taught that?

        • I just would feel highly embarrassed and afraid they wouldn't like it.

you need to wash properly but you are right, most kinds of soap aren't good for that part of the body.
you could get special soap or just wash carefully and thoroughly with water.

I'm female(pansexual) and my ex never used soap on her vj only water THAT WAS SO FUCKING NASTY SMELLING it was like chemicals. I have always washed my junk with soap since I can remember. Never had a UTI ever. Make sure you soap it up then wash it all out and there shouldn't be a problem. I'm not trying to judge you but you need to use soap on that cooter if you wanna feel clean.... and get laid.

  • Washing properly down there will prevent infections. I always wash properly now after getting hit by UTIs twice one of which became a kidney infection.
