Is it normal i'm overwhelmed by dog?

I've never had a dog before... To the point, someone gave away their dog and I took it cause my son really loves dachshunds and it would have gone to the pound. She's friendly and cute but she's so much work! I've only had her a few days and she's escaped from her harness twice, chased the cat under the bed and she cries if she can't see where I am. She's also not totally housebroken or maybe it's cause she's stressed. I know it's early but I feel like I should have stuck to cats :/

    Take the dog to training.

  • Just get a dog crate, put the dog in the crate when you aren't there and it will learn to hold it and not shit or piss all over the house.

    • She has a crate , she doesn't do it when were away she sneaks off upstairs and does it in a certain room. How do I get her to do it outside? Is it possible for small dogs? My mother in law just uses pee pads for her small dog:/

      • I'd try to catch her doing it and correct it right then and there.

Owning a dog is a big responsibility and an expensive one, and one you shouldn't take on lightly or underestimate, there's an period of acclimatisation for both you and the dog which can be a stressful time for both, there are many places for tips and advice online to help you train your dog, also, it could be wise to take the dog to the vets, that way you can check to see the dog has everything it needs and you can ask the vet for advice on your current situation, I did and the vet was more than happy to give me a lot of helpful advice

It's normal to feel stressed but as hard as it can be try to be as calm as possible around the dog as dog's are very good at picking up on human emotions and anxiety and stress can stress out dogs further, it will get easier even if it may not seem so at the momemt, training is crucial but you should notice a difference just as you and the environment becomes familiar

Congratulation on the new member of the family :D it will become easier

I've always heard dogs are much more trouble than cats...
but I have my own theory that it's kind of proportional to what they give back to you in terms of loyalty and love.
    XD

Poodles are very smart, they could train us if they wanted to do so.

Nope, they hire other pooches to do it for them.
