Is it normal i'm still freaked out after a local shooting?

I was at a local event late Saturday night. My friend and I decided to leave a little before it ended. About five minutes after we left, six people got shot. We were walking to our car at that time. I wasn't aware of what happened until a friend texted me freaking out about whether I was safe.

Even though I didn't witness the shooting, I am still really really freaked out. Especially since it was so soon after we decided to leave.

Is it normal for me to still be upset/scared?

This is completely normal. People who witness car accidents can be traumatised because it's a reminder that the world isn't safe.

If you're still feeling traumatised after a week or two I'd be seeking professional help because you could have PTSD.

I feel ya. I live in a quiet little tiny town but there was a murder a block away from my house last week. And a gunman on the loose a few years ago. It just keeps getting closer to home. It's inevitable unfortunately.

I was actually gonna go to that this year. Glad I didn't. I would've still been shaken up, too.

Watch out! There's got to be a meteorite falling to earth somewhere and it might hit you.

How many meteorites kill people in the US compared with guns?

Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Not much in Australia since the buyback of the most dangerous weapons decades ago after the Port Arthur massacre: the stats are clear and easily accessible on the internet

The US kills a lot of people in other countries with bombs too: for example the 27 Medicin sans Frontiers medical staff and patients recently when they bombed a hospital

Not everyone here is some crazy, gun wielding nut. Down south its basically an inveterate part of life, if you're a man and don't like guns you are castigated.

Other parts of the country are very civilized, I can assure you.

I didn't say anything about "everyone" but you certainly have far too many crazy gun wielding nuts all over your country, not just in the south. There have been plenty of gun massacres in other parts of the usa.
