Is it normal i'm trying to stop masturbating?

It feels great while I'm doing it then I tend to feel crap afterwards - sometimes for hours. I can do without that.

It's just so hard to stop!! I do it like once a day.

Anyone else trying?

Do you feel physically bad or is it a guilt thing?

I have that problem too. It's seriously fucking up my sensitivity. I think I have a porn addiction. Theres an entire reddit page to help addicts out. Helping your bros out.

I've experienced this. I would masturbate for about an hour or two before bed most nights, but it slowly became less and less gratifying. It got to a point where I'd feel worse afterwards than when I started.

My solution was to take a break for about a month. The longer you masturbate, the more "tolerance," per-say, you build up, making it feel less and less satisfying. By giving my body a break, I felt less dependent on it to fall asleep and returning gave me better orgasms. I also worked towards getting rid of the mindset that I need a good climax to feel good about myself. Instead, I focus on enjoying myself in the moment. Taking a step back and trying again from a different angle a few weeks later helped me a lot.

If you're doing something that makes you feel like shit afterwards, the most sensible way to deal with that is to stop doing it.

However, if you feel bad in the sense that you feel ashamed or guilty or dirty after masturbating, then I'd suggest that you do some thinking about why exactly that is. Masturbation is not physically harmful (assuming you're not doing it in a really stupid way or in a really stupid place), but there are loads of anti-sex assholes in this world who do their best to screw up the minds of kids with messages that their bodies are filthy, anything to do with sex is disgusting and physical pleasure is something that should be spurned because God wants us to suffer.

I mean, I fuck at least once a day. I suppose if I was single, I’d jerk off once a day too.

Strange comment on something that's entirely plausible.

Believing you'd never do or experience something does not make it true that nobody else could ever possibly do or experience that thing.

I’m a chick. With a boyfriend. We have a really rocking sexlife. If I’m a troll, you’ve never had a relationship.

(Sometimes we even fuck more than once a day 😉)

But I thought IIN members who have been here longer than me should tell the gender of people behind usernames that appear frequently in topic comments. Like I haven't been here long enough, but at least I know the genders of most of you.

Considering getting a spouse as the mob (soceity) is 'screaming out at you' that you should? Understand that in reality it's not always possible to get sexual gratification from your partner everytime you need it, there will be times when you need it and your partner isn't available physically, or emotionally. You're buying into the fallacy that masterbation is bad? If you're a male (which i assume,) then consider the prospects of developing prostate cancer from prolonged non ejaculation periods, or getting into an unwanted legal entanglement with a woman you knocked up because your horny dick was lured to penetrate unprotected that one time. If you're a female consider the prospects having your ovulation induced horniness getting you in an unwanted 'romantic' entanglement with some guy who was only sowing his wild oats. Oh, have I mentioned STIs? Anyways, you don't feel ashamed to pleasure yourself, get privacy and do yourself!

It can hurt to let things build up without being released. Yes, they weren't specific about the frequency which should spell out to us if it is a problem.

    • At least once. Sometimes 3 or 4 times or more. It can become the default thing to do when I'm not on a work day. I want to do worthier things with my time, and myself.

Doh, a typo, but the comment still stands, I'd finger and lick to orgasm, more than once a day though!

  • Bit of both. To be honest though, I don't see what's unhealthy about having a set of personal convictions and feeling bad when I violate them. That's normal. We have consciences. When we violate our values we feel bad. Learning to live in line with our convictions is important.

Also, I really don't like the way it takes up so much time and the more I do it, the more I want to look at lurid stuff on the internet - even if the first few times I have zero sexual thoughts whatsoever. I don't want to develop a dependency on that stuff, for a whole host of reasons!

Personal convictions and values are nothing more than opinions. Opinions don't necessarily have any grounding in factual reality, and nor do they necessarily lead to positive outcomes. The 9/11 hijackers had some very strong convictions and a coherent value structure, as did Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao, Jim Jones and every other religious or political wingnut who ever lived.

Your conscience isn't the voice of God inside your head or some such shit, but merely the result of the world-view you've internalised due to what you were told and what you observed and experienced when you were growing up. Someone who was born to a pair of sociopathic parents who value other people only insofar as they can be used to help them achieve their selfish goals will have a very different conscience to someone who was brought up by parents who belonged to one of the more benign brands of Christianity.

You're free to believe whatever you choose, even if those beliefs are irrational and lead to you hating yourself for having urges that exist because of our innate drive to perpetuate our species. But self-loathing never leads to anywhere positive, and believing that sex is disgusting often causes huge problems in relationships and it can lead to some extremely bad outcomes.

      • Why am I being attacked just for having convictions that are authentically mine, and wanting to live by them? They may not be similar to those of most other people commenting, but isn't this 'isitnormal.com'? Sheesh. I just want to live by my ideals. So what? It's not like I'm proposing to take a razor blade to my skin!

Perhaps you should try to occupy yourself with other things? Are there any hobbies you like to do or shows you like to watch? Perhaps you can use the time to learn something new online? I don't think masturbating is bad, btw. I just figured that a few suggestions would help.

If you perceive what I wrote as an attack, then you clearly need to try to step back and take a look at your life.
