Is it normal i need to hurt myself when i'm anxious

I don't mean any hardcore self-harm, but when I find myself to be feeling highly anxious ill claw my nails into my skin on any accessible body part. It's almost like an automatic reaction, I can't even help it. Is this normal? Does anyone else ever do this...

I used to do this and it escalated into cutting myself...I don't know if the same will happen with you though. Try breaking the habit and finding an alternative before it gets worse, maybe get one of those stress toy things?

This is actually an act of self harm. I used to do it when I couldn't access sharps. Please try to cut the habit quickly before it cascades into something bigger. Go to your doctor and you will be referred to a pyschiatrist who can help you. x

    I do this too.
Especially if im very angry or sad and about to cry. it's more of a distraction thing than a punishment self harm.

No it's not. Self harm can never be normal. Pain is like a drug because your brain releases painkiller chemicals when you hurt yourself, so that could be it. Humans can become addicted to just about anything.
