Maybe I just wasn't a teen in the time when he rose to stardom, but I really never found his music to be that good. I'm guessing his revolutionized choreography in a way that wasn't done before in pop music and did music videos with storylines (which wasn't previously done before), right?
I never understood his appeal, and I was in my teens when he first went solo, so I guess I should have been in the right demographic to get him. In his later years he just went total freak-show, and I stopped paying attention to him.
My wife and I and our kid do enjoy it when his songs come on the radio, but only because we do his weird grunts and squeals in unison.
In retrospect, it's funny how everyone thought he was using street slang when he sang that he was bad, but in fact he was being totally non-ironic and honest.
I was a teenager in the 1980s, and although Michael Jackson was very talented of course, I never thought he was all that. I was listening to Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, New Order, the Cure, and other New Wave, and Alternative type of artists.
He was sooo weird dude. Hanging out with kids in your past time is very weird. Ive never had the urge to hang out with kids. Everyone says "but his childhood". Who gives a damn? I had a rough childhood I didnt turn into a weirdo....ok im weird but not that kind of weird... ok im weird but I know im weird, and thats what makes it ok.
