Is it normal i sometimes worry what i create can have negative affects?
So I’m an aspiring writer, and while I know there’s no guarantee of success, even if only a few people read my books, there’s still a chance that somehow it could negatively affect them. My story is a fantasy series like Harry Potter or Star Wars, and I’ve imagined fictional weapons, and what if someone tries to create them in real life? Or what if someone feels bold enough to try to copy a scene for some reason and hurts themselves? (I’ve heard stories of kids dying from trying to copy super heroes for instance).
This is probably being overly worrisome, even if I get published I probably won’t have THAT much influence on people’s lives, but you never know, people can get very passionate about things they’re fans of. I try to tell myself that if someone is that reckless and/or malicious, they probably would do something like that whether they read my book or not. But on the flip-side, I thought that since the same logic can be applied to good influences, why even bother writing anything if you’re not going to have SOME sort of affect, one way or another!?
Maybe I just overestimate my influence, but I just want to be safe.
