Is it normal i think is it normal is frequently used as an alternative to social media?

I'm under the impression that many of the users here use this site as a kind of social media outlet because they prefer to socialize anonymously rather than with people the actually know.

I gave up social networking a long time ago. I loved the MySpace days (remember that!?) however the transference to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram... it became narcissism's playground. It was tiring and monotonous. Although what you had for lunch and needing to tell me how amazing-to-then awful your love life is -- I don't really need to know. Unless your a great real life friend of mine.

It becomes going out to post the fact that you get out... a real spectacle for your online "friends"..

Basically anonymous sites have more beneficial qualities: If you're racist, no one will ever know! If your opinions can be offensive, to your diverse friend list, no one will ever know! And if you're attracted to your family members and fap away your day... You receive advice and a platform yourself to give uncensored advice. To help strangers, so X off the bias factor.

This site is KING, in my opinion.

As a social media site, I think IIN is a more genuine experience than the mindlessly empathetic jabber found on Facebook. Or, the bland flavorless platitudes that are over-intellectualized on Sunday morning television.

If you want to controversially say "Fuck the World", and explain your sensible outlook; we will either identify with you or straighten you out. Brutal honesty is hard to find in a world of vapid politically correct assholes.

Yes and no. People here, which are few, truly will speak their mind. However any user might tend to take the "politically correct" road too often. Which may be entirely due to the thumb-up/down system. If you're worried at all about the majority ruling, you'll see the users justifications for each and every troll-post. "Oh you murdered your family and fap to this thought? -- You simply lacked love and nurture, like Hitler, ya' know? He was unloved, too. He could have been saved. It's normal, is basically I'm trying to say".

Although for every thumb-hunter, there is that great comment, of sound mind and unrelenting honesty. This usually being the -3 thumbed down user. Whattayagondo.

Anonymous sites are much better than the appeasing nature you find on Facebook and Twitter. Instagram... (aka insta-gratification) just...no.. #justgotouttagym #arenticute #validation #PLEASE?

Well okay. Yes and no to your yes and no. I think the thumb system mostly encourages trolls who think a thumb count of -7 is a badge of honor. But more importantly, I have noticed that here at IIN, empathy does very little to up your count.

          Well yes and no.
While some trolls intentions are incessantly trying to offend users or leave crude comments, their - 7 (which I've never seen here, yet) does not get them far. As the thumb system removes their ability to comment. Meaning 1-2 max comments -- they are usually gone by then and headed toward a third/fourth/fifth account. It seems trolling is a teeny tiny problem here. Frequent user's laments (regarding the users they hate) is much more rampant than trolls, trolling.

I see the biggest spike in posts, where people cannot differentiate between "troll post" or a serious question. Making the comments section, "well if you're not trolling X" and so on. So posting-trolls are more likely, than comment trolls.

I have noticed that as well. BTW, -7 was the lowest count I have ever seen.

I suppose it is a form of social media; it's a forum where people come to talk to each other, to socialise. It just happens to have a theme - normality.

You could consider many websites beyond Facebook and Twitter social media.

So yeah, people come here to interact with each other. Not necessarily with the intention of making friends, but certainly with the intention of socialising :)

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • That almost sounds like a social website that is centered around being anaonymous while talking to other people that have usernames to make them anonymous because they're here for the same reason!

^^^And that sounds like the intent behind IIN. :O

      • Not much, no. I only use it to talk to one person due to not having a phone. Why?

I think this site is a big attraction for trolls, but its still pretty fun.
I gave up Facebook and Myspace and all that a while ago, I just got sick of knowing every intimate detail about people I know in real life...sometimes youd rather not know !

Um.... *thinking about it while having flashbacks of wonderful memories here*

Well, yeah, sure it is! ...I guess? But, this is like a site used for asking for/giving advice and to say what's normal... I'm not really sure, but, like you said, people like to socialize with each other on here.

Many people do like to socialize anonymously, but what makes you assume they prefer this to facebook? Why wouldn't they prefer both? Hell, they could even prefer facebook over IIN yet still like IIN, too.
Sometimes you just want to tell people how you feel or what you do and don't do without any real consequences.

I wasn't aware it was unacceptable to broaden your experiences by getting to know people of different places, cultures and opinions...

What exactly do you think we should all do here?

What exactly do you expect? A group of humans together in one place will be social. That's what humans DO.

I edited before I knew you replied. Was not my intent to make you appear rude and I don't think any reasonable person could find your reply rude. You could have editted yours as well if you were concerned.

The phrasing of your original question? That came across as rude.

        • Not really. It was just a question.

Well, I'd have to say in my case I used to have a Facebook. I, like others on here got tired of the posting every minute of your life ppl. Who cares your going to the gym now?! Then you get the pictures of them making the duck face.
Here I believe ppl say what they think, it seems more genuin. You actually hear what ppl think about different subjects. I find it interesting. Sometimes you might learn something. Other times you laugh so hard your belly hurts.
As far as it being anonymous, yeah but in that way it allows ppl to be more honest with their opinions. And someone else said it, you get to know some of the other characters and socialize with them and who ever else on here.
I stumbled across IIN by accident and I'm glad I did.
So yeah, for me it's in place of other social media.
