Is it normal i think its stupid financial aid assumes that parents care?

I understand a parent should care or should help. It does not mean they can or they will. Financial aid is meant to bridge the gap between what your family can afford. What makes them believe the parents are going to pay if no law says hey have to? Unlike in most movies a lot of parents dont save up a tuition when children are little and at 18 say "Oh heres your college fund".

    It is a bit of a bummer. Once you're 24 you'll be declared independent regardless, bit until then it's assumed that they'll be helping you pay.

    If you really want to go to a school you can't afford; get a job.
    I don't understand those who feel it is anyone's responsibility to pay for their schooling, but their own.

      Yes in a shitty economy where 18-24 cant find work, People are committing suicide over it, College helps you get a job, and high schools dont let you work unless you have a B average. You're really not aware of whats going on in the world are you? You should wake the hell up.

        And all those college grads that can't get work, but have a 6 figure debt. Yeah, I'm the one who is out of touch.
        If you want a job, there is work out there or there wouldn't be so many illegal aliens here working. You may not get a hundred grand a day or benefits, or working conditions YOU think you deserve, but there is work out there.
        I think most of you are just looking for a free hand out and want others to foot your bills. The American work ethic has gone to shit and that's why everyone wants to hire the illegals; no unions, no hour long lunches, no 20 minute coffee breaks 15 times a day.
        I think it's you who has lost sight of reality.
