Is it normal i think that we should have a separate lane for just trucks?

I think that cities should have separate lanes that only trucks drive on. Trucks and transport vehicles. Cars move a lot faster and trucks are carrying a lot and must move slower. I think it would be a lot safer if they had special roads for trucks everywhere. By everywhere I mean in all cities.

If cities had the money, I suppose they would have separate lanes for heavy vehicles.

Being from a country that drives on the left, normal etiquette is for trucks is to keep on the left lane when on multi lane roads/motorways. In some suburban centres, trucks are discouraged from using the local roads and are to drive on certain routes.

    • That is very interesting but what does this have to do with trucks, roads, and safety during driving?

Technically, or at least on mountain roads, trucks are supposed to stay in the right lane and only merge over when near a ramp and then merge back over.

I think it'd be a great idea but it wouldn't happen. And even if it did, people would be weaving in and out of it that it would be pointless.

No, trucks aren't the problem it's regular drivers.

There are usually truck routes in towns and cities large enough to require them but the intent is more for the trucks to be able to deliver promptly and efficiently rather than safety and convenience of car drivers.

You don't have to worry about truckers so much as car drivers, these guys drive for a living and are much more careful and knowledgeable than the average driver.

My husband is a truck driver so if you have any specific questions about trucking in the US I can ask him.

    • I never said truck drivers were a problem. Small cars go faster by 20-30 miles. Big trucks usually go very slow and are very heavy. If a small car swerves or driving recklessly it would be hard for a truck to move out of the way. It would be easier for small vehicles to get out of the way. If one car crashes it can create possible accidents but a massive truck crashing can create a lot more damage. Who owns the truck is not the issue here. So if we have heavy slow vehicles in one lane and small fast vehicles in the other we have a lower chance of accidents.

I agree. I wish it was possible. Where I drive from work it's a bitch when I am getting on the highway because I get on and I'm usually behind some truck. The next lane is free but cars are going 20-30 mph faster so I have to quickly change lanes and floor the hell out of that shit to keep from cutting someone off in a manner in which they could easily rear end me by accident. Luckily, my car is a T-bird so it's built for that (flooring it, not getting hit!).

It's even worse when there is also a truck at my side and it makes it tricky to manuever around them both because usually one is going slower.

IM ON THE HIGHWAY TO HELL, not to insinuate that the members of the female gender and subpar drivers in comparition to male drives, and the probable outcum of you "flooring it" would result in the temination of both of our exsistence in this realm of consciousness

Here trucks are not allowed in the far left lane. IDK if it is like that where you live.

Excellent idea, but not likely to happen.

Why stop at just trucks though, how about for motorcycles too?

    • I thought they already had special bike lanes?

Since when do motorcycles fall into the same classification as bicycles? Hmm?

            Thoroughly offended...

            • Motor cycle. Bicycle, tricycle, unicycle and motorcycle. Bike has two wheels, tri has three, and uni has one. A motor cycle has a motor in it and two wheels. So just a more complicated version of a bike.

Your idea works in theory, but is impossible in the real world.

    Here's what will actually happen:
*Lanes are built for the trucks to travel on exclusively.
*Because there are few trucks on the road in comparison to automobiles, people will see the lanes as being mostly empty and say "HEY! If automobiles could use those lanes, it would reduce traffic!"
*Gradually the restrictions or enforcement against automobiles in those lanes are reduced and we are right back to where we started.

    • Not if they have a sign saying not to go on that lane. I actually have seen this once before but that was only one city. I do not see this thing a lot but its seems like it would be so much safer.

    BUS LANES!!

They already have one of those, it's called the right lane. If a truck driver isn't using it, and is going slow, then he's an inconsiderate fuck.

    • Truckers have to go slow and so do buses. They have to in a lot of places. If you have ever driven down the road they will sometimes have a sign saying trucks 40 cars 60. So the truck has to drive slower.
