Is it normal i think the entertainment industry is racist?

Okay yes there's a bunch of different races in the media. But all the african american artists that are popular today either are overly sexual, or rapping about killing / drugs/ partying. I can name a bunch of white, Hispanic, etc singers that don't act that way and still are popular. But I honestly can't think of an African american artist THAT IS POPULAR / WELL KNOWN that doesn't do either of those things. I feel like the media is trying to portray African americans badly through entertainment and the younger generation grows up thinking that that's okay and it makes me mad. What do you guys think? is it normal to think this way or am I overreacting?

As a black female I think that parents should teach their children not to identify to singers or any other artist. Yes we have a heavy story, yes we are often portrayed in unflattery ways but the only way we can get over this is working hard and education. And note that almost all 'new' artists are like what you described in your post.
However I don't live in the USA and maybe it's different there.

    • He's not a popular singer / rapper for this generation. I'm not talking about actors and actresses either. Sorry I should have stated that.

          • The fact that people can only just name 1 person kind of proves my point though..lol
And no one is naming one thats an artist that's hot right now.

If you think it's bad now, do a bit of reading and see what it was like before WW2.
Anyway, I dare you to name any industry that isn't racist, sexist or some other ist.
And they are black Americans, thank you. Not one in several million have come from Africa in the last 300 years. Damn PC crap.
