Is it normal i think the older you get, the harder it is to make friends?

I'm 22 and I have lost a lot of my friends due to fall outs and I basically got sick of them. I'm trying to establish new friends but I feel most people already have their groups of long term friends. You see pictures on Facebook of someone & their besties. I just would feel like an outsider, trying to get to know someone who's already had long term mates for 5 years or more. Anyone else feel the same?

I think its better to not think about yourself here. Think about what you can add to another person's life, not as their slave, but as a person who really is there for them on every level you can be. When you really invest in people they see that, and most often will respect you in return.
You won't get bored of a person when you really deeply care about them, and the only way to do this is by putting yourself in their shoes.
People make friends at every age.
If you have any hobbies, I would seek spaces where people with the same one are likely to be, maybe even where the hobby is done depending on what it is.
    Best of luck!

    • Thanks for this great, long explanation :) Thing is, I do try and put myself out there with some people I'm keen to get to know. I often try with failed efforts. How can I be there for someone who doesn't even let me be there for them? If you know what I mean. In most cases its me getting in touch with someone, asking how they are, it's me inviting someone to hang out e.c.t. I don't have them wanting to get to know me or wanting to hang out from time to time or messaging to see how I'm doing. I start to care/ show an interest and it fails. I feel hurt because I'd do anything for someone I care about. I like to be there but I can't be there if no one talks or tells me their problems. Only people that want to hang out are guys which I almost always decline as I know they're just after sex. The girls on the other hand, don't seem the slightest bit interested in establishing anything :/ Its just lame.

It would feel weird as fuck doing that on facebook (if that's what you mean), but I don't use it.
It depends. You ARE young, even though you don't realise it. So, I think it's more to do with your situation. At that age, I met a lot of new people - only made a few lasting friends - but there were a lot to choose from. So, I'm thinking it's more to do with your lifestyle and things you do.

Making friend is really simple but you have to have a certain kind of mindset.

When you feel no need to be attached to another human being. You become very secure.

Oh I meant trying to make friends on facebook - but you didn't mean that, I'm pretty sure. Sorry if I misread.

Actually, I take back what I said - it generally does get harder as you get older. I feel the same, think most people do. But you're definitely young enough to still be able to make lots of friends, trust me. Just gotta keep putting it out there, and if you don't get it back, that's their loss.
(Sorry for like...being inconsistent, it's just a good question that's all)

        • Oh no that's really okay! Yeah, I'm basically trying to say that a lot of friends especially girls, already have their own circle of friends. Facebook is one easy way of noticing this as people tend to love posting pics of them and their mates. How old are you out of curiosity? I feel you are a newbie to this site as not only haven't I seen u around but you provide very good sensible feedback :)
