On Netflix included in the warnings of Violence, Language or Nudity they include Smoking. How stupid is that? As if someone is actually going to say "I don't want the kids watching that, there's smoking." is it normal I think it's stupid to warn people there may be smoking in the movie??
It's comical that they put smoking warnings because smoking is unhealthy. Characters in movies jump out of moving vehicles, kill people, appear to engage in unprotected sex, drink alcohol, take drugs, blow up buildings and do ALL kinds of unhealthy or dangerous things. It's called a plot! Why specify smoking? Movies are not healthy living manuals.
I think it's there to satisfy the people who think if their kids see smoking, it's gonna influence them to do so as well; as if they haven't seen smoking before...
I don't watch Netflix and honestly that pretty much cements me never subscribing to it. Kids start smoking cause its cool not cause they saw it on TV.
I agree that the warning is stupid. When I was a teenager, everyone knew the places in town where juveniles had access to cigarette vending machines. I haven't seen one of those in decades. Cigarettes cost something like ten dollars a pack now, which is probably the reason why so many people have quit. I can't remember the last time I saw someone smoking. I don't think watching a movie with people smoking is going to encourage kids to do it. Everyone knows it's a deadly habit.

Maybe it isn't for kids. Netflix has a separate section for kids anyway, and I'm guessing the stuff with smoking in it probably isn't featured there. I have a Netflix account which my kids use and I've never seen this.
I'm guessing it's for adults. I think that is actually worse.
You're right. It is worse. Can you picture an adult saying "I won't watch that cause they show people smoking."?
What's next? Warning, this motion picture may include burping, spitting, and a storyline that includes imaginary characters portrayed in a negative light.
I am going to agree that it's kind of stupid, but at this point I feel it's kind of tradition. Like, if I look at the box of Drakensang: The Dark Eye, I see that the game is rated T for blood, suggestive themes, tobacco reference, use of alcohol, and violence. It really wouldn't have quite the same effect if it was only blood, suggestive themes, and violence.
I think it is stupid, it should only be a warning if it has explicit language.
