Is it normal i upload ugly profile pics of myself on facebook?

I don't take Facebook seriously, and I only update my profile pic once a year. I don't put on makeup or try to look cute on Facebook like everyone else. Most of the time it's a pic of me doing stuff like eating, cooking, working, or something else mundane.

The last pic I uploaded was on Valentine's Day and it got about 126 likes. My cousins commented on it bitching about how they work hard to glam up their faces and outfits only to garner two likes while my shit gets a lot. Friends stepped up and told them off, they argued back, and it devolved into a shitstorm. I thanked my friends and then reminded everyone that it's just a website and that we're all adults who should be getting along. It didn't work. I shrugged it off went to work, and haven't visited Facebook since then.

But yeah, is it normal that I upload ugly pics if myself on Facebook?

Yes I see people who upload silly profile pictures where they make funny faces or look ugly on purpose, some who literally never update their photo and others who upload photos where they're doing something so you don't even see their face properly so yeah it's normal to upload a photo that isn't just you looking into the camera.

    • Why do adults make such a big deal about Likes on Facebook? It's just a website.

Insecurity, and a lot of people take social media way too seriously.

A lot of people seek validation from Facebook likes, and I also truly believe there are quite a few people addicted to social media who get a dopamine release from the likes and develop a craving for that.

I think some people are still caught up in a popularity contest as well.

        • Honestly, that's kind of sad that they're caught up in fake validation and popularity contests.

I'm starting to think that Facebook has a way of dumbing down people that use it. I logged back in today and one of my cousins seems to think that I enjoy having likes on my photo. I honestly just don't care about it. She also said by keeping the photo up, I'm rubbing it in her face. Like, where did that crap come from? I never said I enjoy rubbing anything in her face. Adults act so childish on that site.

Very true. I've found myself spending less and less time on there.
