Is it normal i want to believe in a god, just so i can hate him/her/it/them?

As a wheelchair-bound person, I often feel the need to lash out. No-one is to blame for what happened to me however (a stroke), so lashing out at other people wouldn't be fair.

I'm also an atheist, so I don't believe in a god. Still, I would like there to be one, so I can hate him/her/it/them. IIN?

Holding into anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

I'm sorry you had a stroke. Life isn't fair sometimes.

You are disabled and in a wheelchair as your disability. I'm assuming that this was purely by chance and it is not to blame on anyone on this Earth, an unfortunate event.

If my assumption is correct, then it is only natural to want to have someone to take the blame. It is only natural to not want to accept that some things are purely misfortune, that you were handed a bad deal by a force that does not personally discriminate. I see your feelings as normal. You want someone to take the blame for it, we all want to wish that we could know who causes us which misfortune and blame our misfortune on someone because it is the easiest thing to do. We don't have to cope with the entirety of reality if we can simply chock it up to some dickhead screwing us over, right?

It just doesn't seem right that no one committed evil unto you, but still you were made to suffer, does it? I understand.

Confused at why people don't think this is normal. If I went blind just by the fact that I got dealt bad cards I'd be angry. I'd need something to take my frustration out on. The problem is when you wake up one day in your 50's and you're still pissed off at the world. Worse if you've accomplished nothing in your life because of your anger. Have you watched My Left Foot? Good movie.

I think it's natural to want somebody to blame for something like that, but I doubt that believing in a god so you could blame them would help. It might take a while for you to work through your anger, but in the meantime, maybe you should look for a healthy outlet for your anger, like talking through it with a friend or therapist, art, or writing. If you haven't looked already, there are communities online for people with a variety of disabilities, and I bet you could find people who've had similar experiences and feelings there.

Good luck, and if you need to talk to someone, feel free to message me.

How long have you been in a wheelchair? Ask yourself what would make you feel better, other than the obvious.

        • I've been in a wheelchair for almost 12 years now. What would make me feel better - besides being able to walk again - is maybe getting a relationship. But that's much harder (I'm not saying it's impossible) when you're in a chair.

Well that's pretty silly. Why not take that would be hate and convert it into something radical directed at things and people that actually exist. I would put pinwheels and streamers on my wheelchair and maybe a motor too. Do some frikkin wheelies and give the finger to passersby. If someone pisses you off just hit the nitrous button and be sure to run over their feet as you blast away. Carry some spraypaint with you and graffiti small children and the elderly. These thing should cure you in no time. I'll send the bill.

    • You're suggesting I should take it out on other people. Sure, if they piss me off I can do that. But most of the time, others don't piss me off. Surely I can't take my frustration out on people who aren't to blame for my condition?

      Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I can totally understand exactly what it is you are talking about, its easy to give yourself up to anger, its an easy emotion to accept, it takes no hard work, and is almost readily available for us to tap into.

But, is there any chance your condition could be reversible? Lets say by getting into better shape and physical rehabilitation? Even if that isnt possible I suggest some physical rehabilitation in general just to make yourself feel better and to be in better shape even if walking again isnt possible.

We as human beings are the only species on the planet who are arrogant enough to think "why did this happen to me?, I did no wrong to anyone else and certainly didnt deserve this!" When it has nothing to do with that, its all chaos and chance. Just because you have done a mundane task 1,000 times before, doesnt mean on that 1,001 time it wont have catastrophic consequences (i.e. driving). And when something like happens we almost need someone/something to blame for it. Its hard to accept or even contemplate the idea that is just happened. There was no rhyme or reason, it just did.

Try setting goals for yourself to achieve on a daily or weekly basis, and most definitely try physical rehab or any exercise you can do. Its a great confidence and self esteem booster.

    • Yes, thankfully there's a good chance I'll walk again eventually, through psysical rehabilitation. The thing is that's it's taking a LOT of time. You see, my problem isn't my legs, but my extremely poor sense of balance (something most people seem to take for granted btw. I used to do too). Things such as stamina and strength are relatively easy to train, but when it comes to balance, unfortunately it's quite different. But you're right: physical rehab is a great confidence and self esteem booster.

I also like and appreciate your explanation about the randomness of certain events in life. Thank you!

Maybe you don't really mean "God" but because he is the closest force as a human figure, you feel it's more realistic to blame. Go ahead and feel the need to blame something else if it makes you feel better, but I'm sure you know very well that it's not right. Dont worry if people say its wrong to blame others blah blah, you seem like you already know that, but it's okay to feel the need to, go ahead, I feel you.

Hi I don't know what to say please people don't hate on me or if you feel the need go ahead. Yes I do believe in God and trust me blaming Him or hating Him is going to get you nowhere. I've struggled as well blaming Him for things and I just find it doesn't make me feel better at all.

I've just recently renewed my faith and have seen the wonders God does people I'm not trying to turn you into a Christian or passing judgement it's not my place I just feel I have to tell you people in the past month I have seen peoples legs grow people who couldn't walk pushing out their own wheel chairs all with the power of God.

Please before you mark me off as just another Christian guru please go watch DEON HOCKEY on youtube please it won't take long and if you want me too I'll pray for you if not then I'll still pray.

I'm not all holier than thou I have to try hard not to fall back to my old ways it's not easy but it's nice to have someone who listens and helps you when He feels the time is right.

I wish you the best of luck and I hope you can find a way to deal with your anger before it consumes you and turns you bitter I've learned to be thankful for the small things in life.

Jesus is dead (IF he ever existed in the first place) and really doesn't care about you (or anyone else for that matter). Sorry.

I'm sorry that I tried to give you my perspective if you didn't want people commenting then why did you post this. Can you please stop associating Christians with the holier than thou people who claim to have such a great relationship with God if they told you you'll burn in hell they obviously skipped the "Thou shalt not condemn" verse in the Bible.

I was just really trying to give you something to think about and really just wish you luck I can't imagine myself in your position we can all just try can't we.

        • ´if you didn't want people commenting then why did you post this.´

I never said I didn´t want people commenting. Why don´t you want me commenting on your comment?

´Can you please stop associating Christians with the holier than thou people who claim to have such a great relationship with God´

Christians who don´t have a holier than thou attitude are good people. Unfortunately, they´re also mistaken about their religion, since Christianity is a VERY intolerant religion with a holier than thou attitude.

´if they told you you'll burn in hell they obviously skipped the "Thou shalt not condemn" verse in the Bible.´

The Bible contains literally HUNDREDS of verses that contradict each other. Besides, it DOES say REPEATEDLY that non-Christians will burn forever.

´I was just really trying to give you something to think about and really just wish you luck I can't imagine myself in your position we can all just try can't we. ´

You are obviously a good person and I thank you for your wishes. That does however NOT change the fact that Christianity ITSELF is a DEEPLY absurd and immoral religion. For example, Yahweh sometimes makes people EAT their babies. What a loving being!

Whereas pessimism is just wallowing in one's own suffering like a pig in the mud?

Optimism is never really lying. For instance: Is it lying to say the glass is half full rather than half empty?

            True.

But, that's not how it happened to HIM. No one hurt him. Therefore, no one has EARNED his wrath.

If you were to cut my legs off, I'd return the favor. He has no one to return the favor to, not even God.

So he should just put his big boy panties on and live life to its fullest while he still has air in his lungs and blood in his veins.
