Is it normal i wish i had a journal for my whole life?

So I do quite a bit of journaling. I found out about these 800 page notebooks a few years ago and got one for Christmas 2019 and deliberately began on January 1st, 2020. But it makes me wish I had had this as soon as I could write. I think it would be interesting to see how I evolved as a person and my writing style would reflect that. I know it would be different over time, but that’s part of what interests me.

I mean, imagine having a big notebook say around kindergarten, and as you learn to write you start writing every day in it. Throughout your school life you write about all of your experiences. Assuming you fill up about a page a day in a thousand page notebook, you’d have one for every two years or so, about four for a whole decade. But some of the entries wouldn’t be that long, and maybe just one would last the whole decade!

You could write about your vacations, interesting encounters at school, interesting ideas you have, weird stuff that happened. Really the possibilities are endless!

You could look through it every once in a while as a trip down memory lane, maybe even publish it if it’s not too personal. Admittedly the ones I have now I use more like notes for my spiritual practices, but I may take a more journalistic approach later.

  • I've written diaries since I was around 6 years old but only regularly since I was 12-13. I look through them from time to time. I still write every other day never stop.

I had a journal in 2nd grade and then didnt start journalling regularly until i was in grade 5. I have kept a journal since, it is awesome to look up and see things. I burned a couple journals in high school unfortunately.
Its better late than never though!!

  • Journal entries capture mindsets like a camera captures its subjects. I like going back and reading old things, studying my handwriting, reenvisioning my thought processes. Sometimes I think I was silly for pursuing a topic, and other times I remind myself of focal points I need to integrate more.
