I won't eat food after the sell by or expiration date ever. This includes one after, or foods you wouldn't expect like cereal.

The sell by date is just an opinion. I eat food that has passed their sell by date and I am perfectly fine.

I know right?! There were five camels there but that one followed me around. They are so big but so gentle :)
The most amazing thing I did there was to go into a bat cave. It was HUGE. We were only allowed to go 70metres in but they said it is well over 1km deep!! :O
Even at 70metres it felt like the bats were busy gymming in there (it was warm and stuffy). Didn't get to see the bats though because apparently they move further back the colder it gets
It depends on the food: cereal should be ok and with dairy or meat you can tell by the smell if it's off
me neither man. I get a bit of shit for it too from my family, they think I'm "precious"
One time when the cheddar cheese was past its use by date and was going white and smelt horrible I was about to throw it away when my dad said "what are you doing!??!"
He rescued the cheese and holding up this stinking thing said "this is perfectly fine to eat"
I said "you eat it then"
IN WHICH HE DID. I WATCHED IN HORROR AS HE CUT OFF A SLICE, AND QUITE DELIBERATELY PLACED IT IN HIS MOUTH.
"See, fine." he says. "Even if it was off, the bacteria is good for you."
MMmm well even so, I'm not too fond of bacteria as a food group.
No because a sell by date is when it has to be sold by, not when it expires. Even after use by dates most stuff is fine, especially pre packaged stuff, some of that can still be a fine a good week after. Meat, dairy and veg I probably wouldn't eat after about 2 days past the expiry.
If it's still good and easy to determine it is , I don't care what the date is . If you are having to throw things out though , you are over stocking when you shop and that's more the issue . You probably need a better formula to your grocery shopping .
Depends on the item. Most packaged foods have so many preservatives, their shelf life is much longer than what can be legally sold. It's kind of gross. You really should be more conscious of the food you waste.
Honestly your basically wasting food, which I go out of my way to avoid doing.
As long as it still tastes good and has no mold/a bad smell, I'd still eat it. Sometimes I'll put the candy, cake, bread, or yogurt in the freezer since they tend to last longer than the expiration date on the package when they're frozen.
If I notice food is past its expiration date, I travel back in my time machine so I can eat it before it expired.
bottled water has an expiration date
