Is it normal keep getting bullied and there is nothing i can do about it

I have worked as a cleaning lady for the same building for years. Never had a problem until a couple months ago. It is three young executives or lawyers that look and smell drunk coming in after hours. They keep throwing trash on me and saying stupid things to me and trying to slam into me. I try to stay out of their way but they won't leave me alone. Have proved it to my boss it was happening , she is sorry and can't do much about it. I think they are either attorney's or doctors with a lot of clout. Also they keep jipping me pay 20 30 dollars. I only deal with with it because my kid needs to eat and I don't want to lose my job.

I'm sorry to hear that you had endure the torment of these stuckup arseholes.

I see no reason why should you endure further abuse from them. Your boss is obligated to ensure that your workplace be it an office or a client's home be free of discrimination, abuse, etc.

I would approach your boss again and ask her to address this now or you should consider legal measures to resolve this.

Whew, I've had some shitty experiences both as a cleaner and as a law clerk in laws firms, but nothing like this!

Dinz is quite right, your boss has an obligation to ensure a safe workplace, but maybe she's scared of losing the cleaning contract? In Australia you could leave and then sue your boss for constructive dismissal but you have to live in the meantime.........

Are you a union member and is your union any good?

The problem is that any action you or your boss takes could result in you losing the work you need and the tips they're giving you.

They're feeding off your fear and powerlessness and it absolutely stinks, cleaning is a hard enough job without having to deal with this as well.

    Okay the options are

A.Sue your boss for unsafe work environment
B.Join and consult a Union for workers like you
C.Sue the people directly for harassment(If they are drunk I believe it might be counted as drunk and disorderly conduct)

There is things you can do about this.

    Just.. stay strong.
You already sound incredibly strong for putting up with this. Someday, something very good will happen to you. You'll see

I'd try hard to get a different job and take whatever you can get. Anything sounds better than the situation you're currently in.

OP, could you turn on your mobile phone and at least get the sound of these arseholes harrassing you and you saying clearly to please stop doing whatever it is they're doing? As in: Please stop throwing trash at me, I'm trying to work. Presuambly if they're drunk they're verbally trashing you too?

I just remembered that very news story about the bloke who left his mobile turned on to record the surgeon's post-op instructions and it recorded the anaesthetist and other medical staff making really disgusting remarks about him while he was unconscious? HE got a HUGE payout - how about trying that?

Not really practical, how is a cleaner supposed to be able to afford to cover her entire workplace with hidden cameras?

I didn't say "cameras". I was more thinking of positioning one in a specific place she expects a confrontation. Perhaps setting the bullies up if need be. Wearing a camera would be a possibility too, though maybe harder to pull off.

Believe me, cleaners don't spend much time in the same place, they have to move around a lot so unless they confront her in one particular spot a single camera would be lucky to catch them. Now wearing a camera, that's a good idea, but how noticeable would it be?

I have another idea I'll put direct to OP ......

I sent it yesterday, about using your mobile phone to record them - check above, it is there

Good luck with it, I hope you can give it a try before quitting and letting them get away with it. If you do try it PLEASE let IIN know how it worked out
