Is it normal most movies are unwatchable to me because no one talks over each other?

Each character stops talking at the right moment to give the other person a chance to talk and finish their sentence. Even huge crowds go completely silent. It is too unrealistic.

There were a few movies in the 70s where people spoke over each other and there was lots of background noise. Those are the only movies I can watch without being irritated.
