Is it normal most retail stores seem to hire mostly women.

When I go to retail stores to shop, I notice the majority of employees are female. Even if I go to a store that is sociologically male. It doesn't matter if it's clothing, electronics, office supplies, furniture, etc. It is weird for me to go shopping for men's clothes and not find one male employee at all. I don't know if anyone finds that weird but I find it slightly sexist of stores to hire in this manner.

  • Most construction workers are men. That could be viewed as sexist, too.

If it's a shop for women, they have women working there and if it's a shop for men they have women working there to attract customers

Oh I already do. In the car I use it as a sleep mask ( not while I'm driving...)

Yeah I work in retail and it's true 95% of the people at the company are female and it gets mega bitchy.

    • When I fill out feedback surveys for stores of that nature, one of the first things I mention if they only have women is to hire men. I get sick of attitude problems due to gender issues.

This arrangement is good in my eyes. Men should leave easy jobs for women.

I think it's because women are seen as being more friendly, hospitable, and approachable. This is why most service related jobs including travel, entertainment and food are dominated by women. Healthcare especially until the level of physician is also dominated by women.

It would only be sexist if they were purposely hiring women over equally or better qualified men. You don't know how many men or women applied for the job or what their qualifications are so it's impossible to say if there is anything unfair going on. It could simply be that a majority of the applicants are female.

Maybe because women are concentrated in lower paid jobs? Most cleaners, childcare workers, aged care workers and disability care workers are women too

I don't really care who the employees are. I'm only there to make purchases and look at the products.

Since you can't tell the difference anyway, this actually is the first post you've made on here that makes sense.
