Is it normal my boss wont give me pay stubs

So I worked for them for a month. They keep giving me personal checks but after two week working for them told me print out a W4 and I9 form since they didnt have a printer. I did this myself and printed them from fedex. So they promised me paystubs but sent me picture of my paystubs and Gave me a personal check. Am I going to get screwed over on taxes? They are also always late on the checks by the day. I can not quit though since they helped me find housing and I fear retaliation if I quit this job.

Just sounds shady all around. Keep records of everything and if they're paying you get the cash out of the bank and set it aside incase someone comes and tries to pull that money out of your bank for some shady shit they did. Record text messages and dont let them guilt you into not paying you cause theyre giving you housing. They arent giving you housing cause theyre so nice its because they cant find help because theyre doing some shady shit

This could be very legitimate. I own 4 small businesses and know many other small business owners.

Small business may in fact do personal checks, and may not have pay stubs. If its a larger business I would expect that they use a payroll processor which would have normal pay stubs.

If the company only has a limited number of employees and pays by personal check; then I would expect to see unconventional pay stubs as well.

You should not be screwed over on taxes anymore than someone with more "official" looking paychecks and pay stubs may screw their employees. In most cases the employer pays their taxes either monthly or quarterly to the State or IRS. The pay-stub is not an indication of actual taxes paid by your employer on that date.

The vast majority of companies pay the state and federal taxes properly. A small number each year do not. The IRS typically accepts your pay stub as evidence if there was not a W2 issued - and goes after the company openers and appropriate managers.

You should not have any problem with the IRS even if the pay-stub is only a picture and the company does not issue a W2.

    Congratulations on your new job.

W2's are issued in January of the following year.

You will not get a W2 with a paycheck. You will get that next year.

I get hand written pay stubs. And yes, sometimes they just take a picture and send it to me. But my checks are never late and I always calculate my tips that go on my check every night.

It sounds like they're up to some illegal activity. Research the history of the company and your boss. There are a lot of court websites that list case information, depending on which state you are in. For example, in Virginia, do a google search for "Virginia Case Search" Do the same thjngnwith your state and you can usually search criminal records just with a Name.

I'd also talk to an employment lawyer. If you can't afford one, most states have legal aid socieities that do free "pro bono" work.

    Hope this helps.
