Iin? my boyfriend has dissociative identity disorder

He used to have these moments where he had no friggin clue who he was. It always felt like I was talking to a completely different person when he got like this. I just assumed it was part of the depression and anxiety. His doctor now says he has Dissociative Identity Disorder and in an odd twist, the other personality is a woman. Suddenly things make a little more sense now. Is it normal?

Some people seem to think you're supposed to just throw people out like trash on here. 'Don't like it? Get a new one!' Like people are accessories.
Life sucks, relationships are hard. The person is either worth the trouble or they're not, but you guys have no clue about that based on this one post.

He's probably a massive trauma survivor.

Normal, no. Mental illness happens but it's by no means normal.

If it’s an attention seeking thing in them then it doesn’t truly exist. It’s performance, not two personalities that are unaware of one another.

It was pretty much what they used to call multiple personality disorder. And that disorder has always been controversial. Many experts arguing it to be real and many arguing that there is zero real proof it ever was. I feel towards the later.

It’s just my belief, a hunch, and of course I could be wrong. It’s a difficult thing to prove one way or the other.

i can see why you think it may be not real at all, but through brain scanning and they can see the differences between a healthy human's brain.

          I agree.

It's very telling that a whole load of people suddenly developed the disorder after it was depicted in a popular Hollywood film.

i do agree that some people fake the disorder and hollywood movies tend to add certain things to the movies talking about psychological disorders to "make it more interesting"
another example is trisha paytas, who made a video saying she had DID out of nowhere.
but this does not say that the disorder dosen't exist.

I’ve been around schizophrenics that seem like that. But I wouldn’t say the second character was all that convincing as a totally different person, just an odd extension of the one person. I think bob is still being bob, no matter how odd. I’m very skeptical of the multiple personality thing.

its a recognized disorder. its not normal, please do refer to a licensed therapist.
i really think you should stay by his side and help him through it, since it seems that you are quite knowledgeable about the subject.

It is usually the result of childhood trauma, the brain trying to break away so they dont have to be present. He may need some serious therapy. Good luck to you both.

  • I knew a guy who most likely has this. He was best friends with a shitty guy I dated once and suddenly long after our breakup this weird guy started acting like we were best friends when we'd hardly ever talked to each other before.
He confided in me about having another personality which was woman...who had her own separate life, name and social media accounts...but he called it being basically part time trans. It was far beyond being trans though, he literally had a separate personality. He also had a girlfriend, while his woman personality had a male lover... and apparently was best friends with me somehow. His girlfriend ended up dumping him. Good call in my opinion. I'd advise you to do the same. Who knows what his other personality may do.

With how disruptive it is I would rate it the severity of schizophrenia and bipolarism.

Either way as shitty as this sounds you should find another person since this one isnt even "one"
