Is it normal my mother wont let me get loans for school?

My mother wont let me get loans for school. She has all my information and hers and filled out Fasfa for me last time. I dont make much with grants so I was going to see if they would give me a student loan.

The issue is that everything has to be in my moms name since stupid Fafsa always has to include parents income. I dont think its fair and I wish they would just count me but I know they wont since colleges assume "Mom and dad" are going to pay our college for us.

Mine unfortunately cant pay anything into my school AT ALL. I dont even make enough to pay for a 2 year(Community school). She said she wont let me get loans since its in her name and so I cant get them. How do I convince her to let me get more money for school? My dad could probably help some but he doesn't give a shit about the fact I exist anymore.

  • Why can't you get loans in your name?

    • Since its based on what your parents are ellegible to getting. That is what the loans said. Fasfa bases it off your parents income not yours. Your own income does not matter.

      • I'm pretty sure you can get them off of what you make, not everyone is a dependent.

        • You are dependent under age 26 unless you are in the military, Married, have kids, or was emancipated before age 18. That is how it works. Simply being 18 does not matter.

          • Since I chose to avoid marriage and sex before age 26 I am kind of stuck.

I think your mom is probably a pretty smart cookie. Haven't you been paying any attention to the school loan shit storm?
Do you really want to start your life 6 figures in debt with little prospect of employment?
Do some in depth research and try to figure out a way to get an education that won't leave you so deeply in debt that you will be 40, before you can keep your whole paycheck.
