Is it normal my neighbor have a pet snake?

I have rescently changed my house to a higher floor in the same building and found that my neighbor have a pet snake. Snakes scare me like hell and he walks carrying it on around in the mornings.
I feel something crawling up my spine when I pass him and have spoken to him about it and he said sorry about it but refused to walk with snake in the mornings.
What should I do about it?

I'm terrified of snakes to the point that just seeing a picture or video gives me chills and makes me nervous. The phobia is so severe that I'll even hyperventilate if I see one. So I understand what you could be feeling. But honestly, it's his pet. You'll just have to avoid him

tbh snakes are pretty chill and would definitely not want to waste their time attacking you or another person unless provoked or threatened. (or starving, in the case of large snakes capable of swallowing humans whole.)

just like how the media tells us of the big bad "bloodthirsty" wolves and "man-eating" sharks, i'd worry more about getting run over by a car than wondering if a tamed human friendly snake who's most likely already been fed is thinking about having you for lunch.

I'm not afraid of snakes, but I'm sorry that you're having problems with this phobia. I'm kinda confused though. Why did you tell your neighbor that you're afraid, and did you ask him to not walk around outside with his snake? If snakes are allowed as pets in the apartment complex then there's probably no rule against a resident walking around with his or her snake. I don't think this person is obligated to change his daily routine to accommodate you or cater to your feelings as a result of your phobia. It's not your neighbor's fault that you're afraid of snakes.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to start doing research about anxiety, phobias and panic attacks. I also think that you ought to seek out professional help if you're disturbed enough by this that you would want someone else to change his routine for you. You need to accept your powerlessness over your neighbor and his choice of pet. Once you accept that you are powerless over these circumstances then you will have more peace and serenity in your life. You are powerless over this, but not helpless. Once you admit that you have a problem then you can start to get better. The first step is admitting you have a problem. Your problem is your phobia, not your neighbor and his snake.

I do want to say that I am not a big fan of snakes as pets, and that I'm a mammal person who can also appreciate birds and certain lizards. I used to keep rats as pets in college, and although I was never personally afraid of snakes, however I was always afraid of one somehow getting into my apartment and making a meal out my rodents. Honestly, if it had ever come to that the snake in question would end up dead compliments of a kitchen knife and my bare hands. I don't hate snakes, but if one ever threatens me or my pets there's gonna be a big problem. I also think snakes make nice boots, shoes and luggage!
    :-)

Cool. Once while camping in Florida, I encountered a beautiful albeit deadly Water Moccasin on a hike near a swamp. He noticed me, was frightened and coiled into strike position. I was unarmed and slowly backed away while taking his picture.

I have always thought of that snake as a surrendipitous friend. He was very pretty and I hope no one ever has to take him out. Nature is creepy but very beautiful at the same time.

PS. If you would like the picture of him, I could set up a e_mail account for you.
