Is it normal not to want to ever grow up? what age would you like to be?

I miss being a child so much that it really depresses me. I miss my innocence and not having a worry in the world. I haven't seen any benefits to growing up at all because I'm never happy anymore unless I'm doing something childish like coloring, drawing, watching Disney movies etc. I've never wanted to look "cool" or "tough" like everyone else growing up wants to do. I just miss being a child. I know I'm only 19 and I haven't even been through half of life's battles, but I just haven't been happy since childhood honestly.. IIN?

At some point, you have to stop feeling sorry for yourself and just let it go man. It'll never be gone, but you can still make some progress by at least trying. You can still appreciate things you enjoyed during your childhood too. Just, being in denial is not good. Aging is a part of life, and you will be better off if you can adjust to that reality.

Sounds like it's taking you a while to come to terms with moving into adulthood and letting go of your childhood. Which is fine and you seem to be aware of it and not in denial about the fact you're finding it hard. It can be hard. Personally, I've had quite a tough time in recent years and at times I've wished I could go back to that safe, innocent place and just not have to worry about things! It can be challenging to accept and understand the responsibilities that come with adulthood, but it's fine to get there gradually. There are a lot of upsides to adulthood as well. We are all going to get older - that's life. Try and think about happy memories as well (or would that make it worse?!) You're 19, you're still so young in the grand scheme of things. If I could go back to 19, I would! : ) Also, lots of changing happens in your teens, but I think 18-21 is a huge time of adjustment too and you might be feeling apprehensive about your future, which will be contributing to the way you feel. Just remember you are you and you're on your life journey and that's special.

        well... are you asking?

i'll answer anyway. early 20s and early 40s - which to me are respectively the best physically and mentally. at 30 you STILL have the first 3, similarly enough to when you are 20, and the last 3 you ALREADY have... so compromise and basic math were the basis of my statement

        • Physical and mental health can decline or improve at any age.

You may not be good looking to begin with.

You may have very little self-knowledge at any stage, and it is unlikely that those who claim such things are able measure it (see below).

All people have massively warped perceptions of themselves, this is psych 101.

          Your statement is invalid.

my statement is an opinion based on personal experience hence it cannot be invalidated i believe. surely it's not something that would apply to everyone but neither would it apply exclusively to me. so i see what you mean and suppose i can agree with your points and even add a couple more such as not everyone being financially stable at 30, still living with the parents, lacking energy due to mental disorders, etc... still, it's 30 for me

            • Your statement is an opinion devoid of logic.

The former made invalid by lack of the later.

I don't want to have to go back to being a helpless minor with no say in what happens to my life. I prefer the age I am now because at least my concerns are taken seriously. An adult has very little of the restrictions a child has.

It also comes with one of the longest and most sappy death scenes ever.

"Uncle Ben"! "No, you can't die"

*Uncle Ben displays a face that suggests constipation*

        *He Dies*

        (VENGEANCE TIME!)

What a great vengeance that was.

I wish I could go back to being 11 - 12. That was the happiest year of my life. Due to the fact that I have mental problems and overprotective parents, I can't live with the freedoms that most adults have. I am still treated like a child, and yet, like most "normal" adults, I have lost my childlike sense of innocence and whimsy. Things that used to make me happy when I was a child, and truthfully up until a couple of years ago - things like animation (both Japanese and American), toys, playing pretend - aren't fun for me anymore. Thanks to the news (and the Internet in general), I am much more acutely aware of the suffering and injustice in the world. I am also more aware of how judgmental people can be, and so my internal dialogue has devolved from "What can I do to make myself happy?" to "What can I do to prevent people from making fun of me?"

It's definitely not easy to transition from childhood to adulthood. If I could reset the clock on my age (if not physically then certainly mentally), then I'd do it in a heartbeat.

When it comes down to overwhelming responsibilities, I see myself escaping back to the memories of my childhood. There are days when I wish Peter Pan would whisk me away. Hmm, Neverland. Then I get sucked back in to bills and reality.

Paedo is the British English spelling - paedophile.

As for 'ur' that's a common and intentional abbreviation.

He missed out the apostrophe in 'it's', but that's grammar, not spelling.

So can't agree with you about the spelling.

But he is still a moron, and a troll.

I was referring to the "ur". And I should have added in grammar. It also lacks punctuation at the end.

The reason ur is wrong (aside form obvious reasons), because he was using it as you're or you are. You see ur is short for your. Now u r is short for you are. So that was my issue with that.

Fortunately, I've been able to grow older w/o growing up!
My first real job was being a roadie for some rock bands in the 60's. After retiring from that I bought a sailboat and sailed round the world.
I got pretty good at sailing so other people hired me to sail their boats. As time went on the boats got bigger and more people (crew) worked for me. I was captain, so everyone had to do it my way, or get fired.
So I spent my life messing about on boats and never really had a "job" in the normal sense; 9to5. I have NEVER worked in an office nor had a cubicle!

I recently turned 18 and I have no idea where to begin when it comes to growing up. I'm not sure that I would want to go back to being a helpless child but I definitely would like some guidance when it comes to moving forward from my childhood.

I assume you are a guy? It doesn't really matter.
Since the chances of finding a worth while, interesting and productive (let alone one with a living wage) job, even with a degree in your hand, is pretty remote, I would suggest you pack a bag and go adventuring. Go to Alaska and be a fisherman. Be a lift operator in a ski resort. Be a beach boy, teaching surfing in Hawaii. Be a white water rafting guide on the Colorado River. Throw the computer away and try the real world.
Stop worrying about your future and live life each day. DO SOMETHING!!!!! ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose I'd like to remain at 26 years old. A person's mid-twenties is usually considered their prime and so this is where I'd like to stay if I could remain a certain age forever.
