Is it normal old people act clueless?

So you've been on this earth for 80 some years... And you don't know how to use a credit card? Where to buy stamps? How to pick out a watermelon at the store? Wtf no offense but how did you live this long if you're clueless. I wonder if these geezers who act helpless are just doing it for sympathy and attention.

    • But, they've been living in the world all this time. It's not like they were abducted by aliens and returned decades later!

They slowed down,no matter how well you take care of yourself some things are bound to lose a bit of function as the years go on,one of them being your brain, they have selective knowledge.

Maybe we're tired because we don't sleep well bc of chronic pain; maybe we're ill; maybe we're on medication that makes us vague.

Stick around and you'll find out what it's like to be old. Bette Davis said "Old age is no place for sissies" and she was right!

Lots of older people are very sharp, and they also have the added benefit of life experience.

I dislike old people too but they become slower and dumber with age lol

It can get so bad sometimes that they even forget about foods they used to hate.

Don't be mean to old people they are just trying to carry on keeping on.

My elderly Dad used to frequently "play dumb" in the stores because he enjoyed the attention he got from the pretty young sales girls. They were always so helpful and friendly.
Actually he was a pretty smart guy. He read a lot, kept up on the news, and mingled and interacted with others regularly. He was not shy about asking questions so he could understand the new whatever that was going on around him, but he sure seemed behind the times when he was in a store.

You do know that brains start to deteriorate right?

    • That actually makes sense.
I always thought only people with dementia were that way but maybe over a certain age everyone gets that way to some degree.

Everything starts to go. The body isn't made to last forever. And I know how frustrating it can be to deal with the old folks sometimes, but give them a break. Chances are you'll be old one day too and I doubt you'd appreciate some punk ass youngsters talkin smack.

Yes, and fluid vs crystallized intelligence. hence why kids can easily learn so much (how to talk, other languages etc.) and on the other side you have "can't teach an old dog new tricks"

There's a lot going on to keep people so busy that they don't have time to keep up with all the changes that are taking place, just the ones they need. I'm in my 60's and I have an Apple 5 and I'm pretty handy with it. I surf the internet, scan bar codes to check availability of merchandise, I practice learning a couple foreign languages by reading pen pal sites and news from other countries, and I can ask Siri questions in three languages and usually understand her response. I recently learned how to operate my combination VHS/DVD player without getting pissed and smashing things.

Some stuff I learn on a need to know basis. I just applied for and received my first PIN number for a credit card. I never needed one before. Several years ago I got a portable CD player but I didn't get it programmed because my computer was down. By the time I got a new computer I couldn't find the instructions for the CD player. I've never used it and it's not high on my list of things to do. Since the CD player episode I believe a couple more modern musical technologies have come and gone and I wouldn't even know them if I saw them. Just in the past several months I've gotten pretty handy with FB because I needed it to keep up with family that's scattered to the four winds.

It's really hard for people to keep up as technology advances at an ever increasing pace while our minds and bodies are winding down.

I've seen a lot of change in my short life. My Dad farmed with horses till the year I was born, and today's modern farmers operate with tractors being run remotely by satellite technology. I wouldn't be able to do either because I never needed to know how, but I can drive a tractor.

I mean old people are annoying and stupid but think of how much technology has changed in the last 80 years add that with a decaying brain that can't learn new things as well and you get old people.
