Is it normal people say "cold as sh1t","mad as sh1t" etc.?

Wtf is going on? People say "cold as shit","mad as shit" ,"bored as shit" what is this about? it makes no sense:(
I have turned of videos or podcasts because I kept hearing this , over and over :((
I have Even heard so called intelligent people who use the spoken English language(and they are native speakers) to make their living saying such ridiculous things as "she was horny as shit", has shit become 'horny' In these times? Have things changed so much? Is shit now cold, mad, embarrassed, horny, cloudy, bright........?
