Is it normal people think applying means you get a job?

Why do people assume applying for a job means you will get it 100 percent of the time. I dont understand this at all. Are people really that ignorant about how jobs work?

It's all in what we want people to believe. People want to believe you will get the job and so do you.

I hear what you're saying. So often somebody will tell me "I'm going to work at XYZ company". I ask "when do you start?" They say they don't know yet because they're waiting for an interview, but they filled out an application!

If I was working in HR @ XYZ company and I had a chance to talk with somebody who's brain worked like that I would put their application at the bottom of the pile, if not in the wastebasket!
