Is it normal sites like spokeo have me listed as a male when i'm a female?

I am being listed on sites such as Spokeo and ClustrMaps, I believe it's called, as a male. I was born a female and have never identified as a male or put on any paperwork that I was a male. I have a unisex name, if that matters.

I know the result is actually me because it is the correct age and location, lists all of my family members as relatives, and has my correct address and business associated with me (though it does have an incorrect phone number).

I've contacted Spokeo and they say there is nothing they can do, as they only gather information from public records. However, I am unaware of any public records stating I am a male. There was no way I could find to contact ClustrMaps.

Public search sites(including the paid ones) are NEVER accurate. Most of these sites have my family members and location listed incorrectly.

  • I thought maybe so. My name is Casey, so it doesn't scream male, but it could go either way.

I have found that the accuracy of these sites is atrocious. What they could find of me was so incomplete... totally shocking. As for the relative list. Some are and many are not my relatives. Someone just doing a Google search using my name would find a lot more information (such as I have several State of Wisconsin Licenses (ones that are not easy to get - and one of them obviously requires a criminal background check); have presented papers at professional conferences, own businesses, etc.)

They don't even locate the legal records that a simple court record search would find on me (in Wisconsin there is a state wide system for court record search). There's nothing unusual, criminal, or wrong with my court records. Anyone involved in business for any length of time ends up being involved in a court case sooner or later (not to mention the time I was the victim of a crime). But, its amazing that the so called sites that claim to search court records cannot find what is freely available in our state court record search system.

My best guess is they work off of phone records, and certain other "soft" sources where accuracy is not required at all.

    Relax and enjoy life,

    • I tried to contact them, but only got an automated response saying they can't edit information and just gather it from "public records", though I question which records, since I don't know of any that list me as a male.

The government allowed that? What country was that in?

    • United States. It's all public records, but I believe mostly phone records and stuff like that that is very easy to access.
