Is it normal someone has took collars off of both my cats?

I made a post before about my sisters cats collar being taken, and now after only a few weeks my own cat has come home with his collar gone. There is no way they are removing it themselves, both me and my sister have owned these cats for 2 years since they were kittens and they have never had any collars disappearing in that time UNTIL we've just moved into this new neighborhood a few months ago.

I'm getting pissed off because me and my sister have to continue buying collars for them and wasting money because some prick keeps taking them off.

Someone is probably trying to take them as their own. You might want to keep them inside for a little while.

  they were originally mousers on our farm, we had to move and obviously can't just suddenly lock them up because they're use to being outside. they'd fuck the whole house up and purposely piss on the carpets/couch/beds which they have before when i tried keeping them in for the day and i don't really like getting kicked out of a house and living on the streets because of that.
  
  also please don't anthropomorphize animals. my cats are mature adults, not human toddlers.

A locking collar shouldn't exist if it does. They are meant to "break off" if they get caught on something to prevent the kitteh from getting strangled. Maybe the cats are just playing in some bushes and they're getting caught on branches and getting pulled off. Have you looked around outside for the collars?

  my sister's looked everywhere on the roads/front neighbours lawns/our own backyard for the collars and no sign of any of them. they're pretty lazy (especially my big cat) so they don't really go crazy climbing around on trees or doing activities which could result in them getting their collar stuck somewhere, and especially since this has only recently been happening since 2 years of owning them after just moving into this new neighbourhood and it's happened 3 times i highly doubt they're doing it themselves

I got a cat cam on Amazon but never used it. Also my cat lost all his collars and I just stopped buying them. They all have the safety release and are going to come off. Just have a chip put in them.

Several possibilities.
1 collars are meant to come loose.
2 someone is trying to adopt your cat, and removes it.
3 someones messing with you.
If they meant harm, theyd just do it.
I lost several great cats before I just decided to stop letting it happen.
My cat is indoors, with a cat door to a green house.
Does go outdoors, but only under supervision.
Its not a perfect solution.
But neither is leaving it up to chance.

  i can't lock them up permanently, they were raised as mousers on a farm and use to that life and i do not have room for a cat enclosure, the place i stay at has an extremely small concrete backyard, you can't even run around in it because of how tiny it is. i'd like to keep them inside however since they were raised outdoors they've already proved to me they will go absolutely insane if i even try to lock them inside for one day, i tried it once and they were purposely pissing everywhere on the couches and carpets (despite having access to a clean, fresh litter tray) and tear up anything they can see.

    I feel bad for you.
    I went through a simular experience.
    Its easy to let a house only cat become an outdoor cat.
    But near impossible to make an outdoor cat become an indoor only cat.
    I broke down and let my cat out.
    She lasted 2 months, then just disappeared.

      sorry to hear about your cat :( i really do want to keep them inside because i know they'll be safer, however they'll go absolutely insane if i even try. when my cat eventually passes away though i'll probably be getting another, and i'll definitely be raising them to be an inside cat.

Ok that’s odd, something is definitely up.
Someone may be trying to steal them.
You probably should look into getting them microchipped so you don’t need collars if this keeps happening.

Also, just check you’ve got collars tight enough to fit two or three fingers in (depending on finger size), but not loose enough for any more, just to check they not slipping their heads through.

  my cat is microchipped currently but my sister's isn't but will be getting it done. still worried even if they are microchipped they can still be stolen especially if the person who steals them never takes them to the vet so the microchip can never be checked

Ive owned outdoor cats for a long time, i never put collars on them, sure they disappear for a few days every once in a blue moon but they always came home and no one ever takes them

      I didn't, but I'm guessing its coz locking collars are dangerous for cats because they can get caught on things & either strangle or strand & dehydrate your cats to death.

        true but i only said i'd look into it, never said i was going to get one people can't seem to read lol. doesn't seem like they're real though only for humans for like bdsm and i don't think i'd feel comfortable buying a collar meant for bdsm and putting it on my cat hahaha
