Is it normal someone took my cats collar?

today my sisters cat came back from being outside and her collar was gone. i 100% believe a person took her collar, this is the first time this has happened and she does not try to get rid of her collar and the collar is not the type to break if it gets stuck on something, so everything leads to a person taking it off themselves.

why would someone take a cats collar? were they trying to steal her and claim her as their own? my sister is buying a new collar for her cat, this time with tags of information such as our address and phone number to make sure whoever took her collar knows she already has a home.

I’m not sure what could’ve happened here, but all I can think of is some post I saw somewhere where someone was taking off cat collars because they thought it was uncomfortable for them.
Maybe it was someone thinking like that...?

Either that or she somehow managed to slip out of it, considering cats can be quite slippery.

    Microchip the cat.

My cat came back in without a collar before. We live in the country I doubt someone took it. Probably got caught on a branch or something.

Has the cat been micro chipped? I'm not a fan of letting cat run around outside unsupervised.

    • my sisters cat hasn't been microchipped although i've talked to her and suggested to get her microchipped after this. (i have a cat as well although he is microchipped.)

we use to live on a farm so they were mousers as well as pets but we've recently moved into a more suburban area, they'd go crazy if we locked them in because they're so use to being outside for all their lives.

Yeah, my kitty is on a tight leash, he's pretty much a strictly indoor cat.
