Is it normal that a 64 year old man is sexually attracted to little girls?

I am a 64 year old man and in my senior years I have grown physically attracted to young girls. thoughts and desires only, I have not acted on the urges and never will, but wonder if my desire for little girls is normal.

    No, that would be paedophilia.

Just because you don't act on it doesn't mean you're not a paedophile.
You are a paedophile, just not a sexual predator ...yet.

Not normal, but not that uncommon either. I was very glad to read, however, that you've never acted on them, and never will. Good luck in you struggle to deal with your fixation. I'm 62, and have a similar attraction to 18-22 yr. old boys.

At least, your attractions are legal...

So are the OP's. Attraction to children isn't illegal, acting on that attraction with a child is.

Yeah, but 60 + year old with 20 year old girl isnt right, same goes for 60+ year old with 20 year old guy. The age gap is too high...

Actually, I think that can work out. It depends on the people. For example, I'm engaged to someone who is in their late 50's. Whereas, I'm in my early twenties.

I think the best thing for everyone is if you get castrated. I know it's not your fault, but if you actually did anything to a child, Would you be able to live with yourself?

    Never say never.
You probably will act upon it.

Yeah, there was this terrible news of a 67 year old man, who wanted to show grand fatherly love but ended up raping his 9 year old grand daughter. The poor girl lived with her grand parents, and the abuse went on till she complained to her grand mother and she sent the bastard to jail. Hats of to the old lady, but if I ever meet that fucked up old man I would be the last person he ever meets!

Something really needs to be done about this. Reform is needed. Laws need to be made stricter. You know in North Korea chemical castration has been approved for repeat child rapists. The rest of the world needs to grow a big pair of balls (oh, the irony) and get their shit together on this.

Chemical castration is used in th west too. Some pedophiles opt in for the treatment. It's just medication that quells sexual desire, I don't know why more don't opt in for it.

            • Something really needs to be done about a hell of a lot of things. We need a worldwide revolution; corporal punishment, concentration camps, eugenics, the whole nine yards. It's simply the only way. Extreme situations call for extreme measures.

In case you're wondering, I'm serious.

Then again, perhaps the main reason why so many consistently drag their feet on this issue is due to the fact that there are simply so many false alarms surrounding it - false allegations, over-the-top "stranger danger" paranoia, etc. Maybe when that's sorted out, the underlying problem will be much easier to confront.

Always. This is another incident. I cant put the link here, but this is an extract from the news, and sadly this is not the only incident:

GIRL,10, BREAKS DOWN IN COURT AS SHE CONFRONTS HER TORMENTOR

Two years after her rape ordeal a 10-year-old girl broke down in tears as the man accused of the attack started cross-examining her in court.

Court proceedings were adjourned as a social worker rushed to console the overwhelmed child who was forced to confront her 67-year-old assailant at the Francistown Magistrate’s court last week.

As the traumatised youngster was led away, the man accused of raping her, Kemoiponetse Olebile calmly puffed on a cigarette during the break.

The young girl had earlier walked confidently into the courtroom in the company of the assistant prosecutor to give her testimony.

She informed the court that she did not attended school and had never attended. Asked why, she could not give a specific answer.

In graphic detail she then told how a trusted neighbour and a man she called ‘grandfather’ had sexually abused her after her mother had sent her to his place to ask for baking yeast.

When she arrived Olebile was drinking tea whilst his daughters were busy with domestic chores.

After she had been given the yeast and left for home, the old man told his children that he was also leaving to round up his donkeys. He was walking just behind the young girl, the court heard.

While on the way the girl told how she was grabbed by the hand and dragged into the nearby bush where Olebile pushed her to the ground and forced himself upon her.

After finishing her testimony the accused asked in cross-examination, “Are you saying that I choked you?”

Looking at the man for the first time during the proceedings, and with her lips trembling, the young girl replied in Setswana: “Yes, you even threatened to beat me to the pulp if I was to resist your advances.”

As her face creased in anxiety and the tears that had been forming in her eyes overflowed, Chief Magistrate Kgololesgo Segabo brought the hearing to a halt.

After the adjournment, Olebile did not continue with the cross-examination.

He argued that he did not rape the young girl maintaining that the sexual act between them was consensual.

The case continues on 22 March.

What is Africa's usual stance about situations like these? I presume that it would vary between each country.

I don't know about Botswana, here are some stats from the latest rape-awareness campaign in South Africa:
A rape is reported on average, every 4 minutes, and only about one in 7 rapes are reported in the first place.
About a third of the population will be raped at some point in their life.

So I would have to conclude that there is more rape than the police can handle.

Also, not all trials are successful.
Even the president got away with it:

Put an end to? Ever heard the name Dr. Earl Bradley? Search the name, and you will know the extent to this types of horror which are far from being put an end to! Poor children, it is difficult for them to trust anyone in todays world anyone whether doctor, family, teacher or whoever....
