Iin, that catholicism creeps me out?

I recently learned about the real history of the Catholic Church and its crimes. Catholicism actually has Pagan roots. It's history is very dark and disturbing. Before I knew the truth about the Catholic church, I went to the Vatican and I was so creeped out. I recently saw a special about the The Vatican and its crimes. Needless to say, I was creeped out but only when watching the ceremonies. IIN?

I grew up Catholic and found everything they teach to be very hypocritical. They teach us that there's only 1 God and that we shouldn't worship any other one but him. Yet they pray to Jesus more than God, they pray to saints and worship statues of Jesus and saints. They say only God can judge and can forgive, yet they go to confession and confess their sins to a priest where they give them prayers to say so they can be forgiven. (in most cases the prayers are to saints - like the Holy Mary. )
Needless to say I'm not catholic anymore I'm Christian. And yes there is a big difference. :)

Are you normal? Yes, thankfully you recognize how disturbing they were.

Onto other things....you went to the Vatican and you were not in awe at the architecture spectacle surrounding you? Hello? St. Peters Square designed and built by Bernini? OMG was my reaction! The Vatican Museum?!?!? The Sistine Chapel? The ceiling by Michelangelo...Holy!!!! I bet you missed the Caravaggio painting in there. I made a POINT to see it. He's the bad boy of Baroque. Stunning shadow and light. I love this art! I cannot say I had the same tepid reaction as you(the art that is). I'm not remotely a follower of the Christian faith except as a curious traveler. I was still floored the art. Italy is the mecca for artistry that has branched out everywhere. That stuff is intense to experience. Maybe only I had that reaction? Then again, I first got into to Italian art in a class. Went there, was kind of awestruck. The lines though? Hilarious.

I already knew what you speak of because my intro to Catholicism was from history classes. I am indifferent to it. This stuff is human creativity. I say nothing more. Maybe you want to list all of the violence associated with this Western religious body that directed plenty in Europe's history since it was involved in the political/financial everything there. Lets see, it got its foothold when the Roman emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan in 313 AD. Lets see. The later massacres? The Huguenots got hacked to bits in the St. Batholomew's Day Massacre. What they did to heretics? Lets see, the story of Joan of Arc. The 1633 trial against Galileo. Crazy! Humans are crazy stooopid. Pretty sure the Vatican had loads of connections to the Third Reich during WW2 also. I ought to read that for my own amusement.

Mary did you know, that your baby boy, would save our sons and daughters?

Mary did you know, that your baby boy, is lord of all creation?

90% of "Atheists" have never picked up a bible so they have no idea what they are arguing against, the other 10% have no idea how to decipher scripture. Angsty teens, thinking blasphemy is cool and hip..

    -Soldier of God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh(Jesus) and made his dwelling among us.

What does that have to do with this topic? That was almost 2 years ago she was 17 not 15. I didn't sleep with that girl regardless.

If you're looking for sins to hang over my head I've said(even on this site) and done much worse.

Otherwise I have no idea why you'd bring that up, other to attempt to shame me? Weak and disappointing to say the least.

Now let me school you, they aren't lying when they call you a weak troll.

Isaiah 64:6 We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.

Proverbs 28:13 People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.

I must then be outside the 100% as I was raised to understand and decipher the Bible and was made to memorize several whole books of the Bible. Read the Bible every day from the time I could read up until I was 18. Still became an Athiest. Despite, or perhaps because of, my upbringing.

I've been going to catholic school for 11 years now and I'm only just beginning to understand the faith. For the first 14 years of my life I was only taught the very basics with no explanation, I've finally reached a higher understanding theology class and WOAH does it explain a lot. The religion is a whole lot more complex than you think, everything and I mean everything connects and it's incredible!!! I don't expect to convert anyone and make them study the religion for 10 years before understanding it but I'm just trying to say that you shouldn't judge any religion unless you are a scholar. Everyone judges Muslims because there happens to be a few racialists and that's wrong. Of course the dark ages were terrible times for the Church and it was very corrupt, that is something that they taught me at my school and we were taught never to forget that.

    1 more thing:
You won't understand the whole Body and Blood of Christ, I'm only now beginning to understand it. It's the most complex aspect of the religion so stop making judgments on how 'creepy' and 'weird' it is. Of course it's weird for this day and age but you have to remember that our religions stems off of Judaism and that started 4,000+ years ago and the culture was COMPLETELY different. COMPLETELY like you have no idea okay? Just please, for someone who studies the religion all of your comments sound incredibly ignorant and I hate doing stuff like this but people need to understand that they won't be able to understand unless you want me to write a book about it, and then 5 more books explaining the first one.

It's normal your creeped out, you just don't understand. And yeah some of the holidays were like the Pagan ones but look around and you'll notice almost all religions have major holidays around the same time.

Catholics aren't that scary. We're pretty normal as far as Christians go. There are a lot of myths and ill-founded stereotypes surrounding Catholics. A lot of Cahtolics are normal people.

I don't think Catholics are scary, but the services are. A dead nearly naked guy nailed to some wood hanging up in the church? Eating flesh and drinking blood? The way the priests sing out and people answer kind of zombie-ish is VERY creepy. If you're raised in it it's not as noticeable, but to an outsider it's down right freaky.
