Is it normal that ever since the charleston shooting i sit in another place?

I'm a 26 year old mixed man who looks more black than white. Ever since the Charleston shooting, whenever I go to church I sit in the balcony instead of at the bottom in the back so that if someone did come in with the intention to harm I'd have a higher chance of being safe. I live two hours away from Charleston and my church is predominately white. Am I being paranoid?

I find it sad that we as a society have been accustomed to fear the notion that some psychopath would start shooting anyone indiscriminately.

When that shooting occurred at that movie theatre in the US, I would go to the movie theatre and I could not help myself as I kept staring at the exits and imagining a psychopath entering and shooting the audience. I felt genuine fear that something like that could be played out again.

I'm afraid of going to the movies because of all the assholes who have been shooting up theaters.

If you get shot in church isn't that part of God's plan?

If that ain't about as hypocritical as anything I've ever read on here.
Why bother to go to church at all if you aren't a believer?
If you are a believer, then don't you believe that when you die, it's gawd callin you home (say amen here brother)? That the manner and time of your death is GAWD'S WILL"? (another amen, might go well here)
You are obviously wasting your time going to church, because even I, someone who hates the very idea of religion, seems to have a better grasp of it's basic tenets than you do, a supposedly gawd fearing (loving?) man.
You sir are a failure as a christian man.

    • There's nothing wrong with a bit of caution and common sense, even for a believer. Plus, even if God's plan does exist, there's such thing as Satan too and generational/spiritual curses.

  • If you want to be safer, you should probably try sitting in Canada.

You're probably more likely to get killed by a drunk driver on the way home.
