Is it normal that flying scares the hell outta me?
I hate flying because I'm extremely afraid of heights. I'd much rather take a train or a bus.

Until I retired 2 years ago I was a senior aerospace quality engineer, approving parts for flight. I flew all the time and never worried about it, got fed up airport terminals though!
Saw a great many "white knuckle flyers" I found that if everybody could calm down hanging about in the terminals, I know they are a pain, but it would help.
If you break down what flying is it is in fact extremely terrifying. You are in a pressurized metal tube 3 miles above the ground going around 450-500 mph.
That being said I dont get afraid of flying due to the shear amount of regulation that takes place In the practice. Also I've skydived before so yeah i dont have a fear of heights.
For the most part I love flying! The only thing I don't like is being in such cramped quarters.
Yes but I am honestly more bothered by the pressure change. One of my friends flew this summer and got some ear issues that lasted the entire vacation.
