Is it normal that i am afraid of becoming an official christian

I was raised in a religious family and we go to church every sunday. I participate in church activities and sort of believe in god I am now 18 and still haven't done the prayer of salvation. I avoid it everytime the call is done. I feel like it's too soon and I do not want to make such a choice now because i'm afraid of being stuck in church for life.

Unless it's some cult, you can leave...

I left after six or seven years. One of my best decisions, ever.

I am glad you got out. If it is a cult, it is even more imperative to leave.

        I wasn't in a cult...

I was in a church. It did me a lot of good for a few years, when I needed support. Then, I started to see the corruption further up the chain and became disillusioned.

I am with you, my friend. The only truth that I can see is scientific truth.

I wish it were legally true, i'm still technically and lawfully on record as roman catholic because i was baptised before i was old enough to make the decision for myself

I get that it shouldn't bother me, i'm an athiest and that's that

but i'm really opposed to baptism ( at that age ), a newborn baby is the most precious and innocent thing in this world, so the idea that you need to wash away the sin from a new life is just plain wrong to me, and especially as it's a decision made for the child at an age where it's doesn't have the cognative function to understand what it means to be baptised

Sorry this is like the one thing i have to stop myself going on tangents about

Yup, it's pretty retarded...however...it's not like it's a legally binding thing. No one is going to sue you to go to church :P I was baptised at 15, and I guess I'm still registered or something, but I've never thought of it til now, and there's no legal contract, so...

I get what you're saying, I just think it shouldn't have any impact. I can see that it could be annoying/frustrating intellectually, though.

Funny, I always just assume C of E for English people.

          I'm racist :(

Yeah it's totally that, the fact it's on records bothers me even though i know it doesn't really have an impact

haha nah, it's in the name :p

although i have to admit most christians i know are catholic, guess that explains the high level of alcaholism and guilt in my area haha

              I can understand that.

Burn down the church and all their records? :P

Awww :( I guess the high levels of protestants in my area explains the general snobbery :/

I'm getting hits on billwinston.org. Some dumb ass televangelist that begs stupid people for money.

Historically, religion enslaves conquered people. Death to non-believers.

I've been a christian believer all my life and I've never heard of "the prayer of salvation".
It's not some prayer that makes you a christian, it's how you live your life. When you try to be loving, forgiving and selfless and don't go around judging people, you're following the example of Jesus.

You can still do that prayer if you feel like it. Nothing wrong with rituals and traditions. But this won't bind you to that church I hope. Otherwise I'd get out of there.

Being religious makes you susceptible to being naive.

i.e. "god plz help me out of this situation my credit card debt is crayzee" yeah sorry ur fukt if that happens

But if you aren't religious, you'll be fine. My family is hardcore Christian, and I told them personally that I'm not. Best decision of my life. They accept it, I'm sure your family will too.
