Is it normal that i am totally obsessed with religion, specifically mormons?

A year ago, I started dating a Mormon girl. Since then, I have been obsessed with finding everything there is to know about their religion and history. I could tell you all the happenings of the church from the beginning to the present time. Recently, I began reading about other religions and now my obsession has become about religion and sociology.

Is this normal?

I don't blame you. I wasn't very interested in religion at all until I started dating a Mormon. He didn't try to convert me and I was very anti-religion but it was so intriguing. I eventually did convert though. Their image to the world is so messed up that you know there is one thing you can count on: there are many "Christians" that are apathetic to their beliefs and hardly understand what they believe in but when someone has the balls to convert to Mormonism you know they're into their religion. And trust me, it takes some balls to admit in many public places that you are interested in Mormonism. I wouldn't recommend it if you're a sensitive person. Being interested in any religion nowadays makes you seem like a stupid prick.

I don't walk around trying to convert people, but when people ask me questions I answer them. No matter how much they try to ridicule me. Haters gonna hate.

Absolutely normal. I really enjoy searching religion, beliefs, cultures, history in general. Its a good that you know. I throw the 'ignorance is bliss' saying out the window and try to learn about anything and everything. I find myself slacking at times. But, your normal. I would give this post a thumbs up if i could. Nothing wrong with learning.

I vote no it not normal just because have u heard the shit mormans believe in? Its not as quarky as sientology but come on, a convicted con-man James Smith i believe, is visited by a an angel then told to head out into the woods with a hat and some "seeing stones", by him self by the way, then returns with the the new word of god, including that the real jeruselm was right here in america all along. Oh and then a fire consumed his house burning the original book of morman so off goes Mr. Smith to the woods again only to return with a NEW similar but not the same version of the book... Come on man do urself a flavor and ditch the broad, unless ur into that whole 10 wifes shit then rack'em up brotha... Hummm i wonder why a convicted criminal would say hes a profit so he can earn shit tons of money and get his dick wet with any broad he sees? No its not normal bro to believe horney, sedistic con-men... What u call god is inside you. Learn it and spread it so we can get this world back on track...

Careful of how you use the word "obsession." It could simply be an interest. Religions and faiths are vastly intriguing.

Ok, since no one else will kindly answer your question, I will. I do the same thing; and it doesn't matter what the religion, I hear about it and then the research begins. I think some people just have a natural curiosity for what other people believe and how they live. You are probably curious about other cultures as well, for me it's not limited to religion. Theology, study that!!

I can't even believe that mormonism is accepted as a genuine religion, the guy that started it was either a clever con artist or absolutely insane.

That good of a con artist to have made All this up at age 14 ? Lol, I'd say he was Way more than a con artist. Brilliant!!
You should get your facts straight.
Oh and by the way... Joseph Smith didn't "start it" either.

Who started it? I thought old smith was the guy who found or rather was shown the way to the golden plates?

That is correct. He found another testament of Jesus Christ/Religion. Like many people find all kinds of cool biblical things today, it was buried and he Dug it up, not 'made it up'. :)

While there is loads of evidence of other Christian artifacts that have been dug up, there is NO evidence of the plates he supposedly was shown to. Therefore it's credibility is in question.

He was 18, not 14. Get your facts straight before you comment. And he DID start it. Before he published the English "translation" of the "golden plates" (which of course no-one else ever saw), Mormonism did not exist. Therefore, he brought Mormonism to the world, thereby 'starting' it.

WORNG !! He was 14 when he knelt and prayed to know what church to belong too. I am LDS and I would know, I read my book of mormon daily ;)

"I read my book of mormon daily"
No wonder you're so ignorant. According to Smith himself, he began having visions in late 1823, as he was born in 1805, he would have been nearly 18 at the time. It was September 21 1823, when he was 17-going-on-18 that he prayed and was told by Moroni (moron-i, lol) about the golden plates.
I'm not even American and I know more about your religion than you do.. sad..

You should read- Joseph Smith history. I can send you a copy of the book of Mormon if you would like?

Its normal. I'm curious about what other's believe in. I like to try and understand why people believe in certain things and why some people choose to go through this life not Believing in anything.
    I'm a mormon.

Mormons, like any other religion, is a Cult. Worse, it is a Cult within a Cult (Christianity). The Church-of-Latter-Day Saints (as they are now called), have only been around for a little under two hundred years. There are already some Mormans forming their own splinter groups (Sects), which will soon become Cults in their own right.
Wait a minute. Come to think about it, I remember that Christianity is a Sect of Judaism.
So, soon we will have to look forward to: a Cult within a Cult within a Cult within a Sect of Jews.
