Is it normal that i can't control my dreams?

In my life I've lucid dreamed once and that was many years ago. The dream was short. These days I'm trying very hard to lucid dream again but I can't. I usually try to lucid dream in the morning. After waking up I drift back to sleep again when my mind remains still conscious. So, when the dream begins I don't understand I'm dreaming but in the middle of the dream I do really understand that I'm actually dreaming. I try to stop the events occuring in my dream and control it but I can't. What can I do?

I lucid dream almost every day for the past 2 years. I hate it. Most of them are nightmares or very fucked up dreams.

From what I have read, lucid dreaming takes a lot of practice. To be able to maintain awareness in the dream and have some sort of control over it takes quite a few tries for most people. There are a lot of techniques and youtube videos on the internet that try to help people with this.

But I would caution anyone about going down that path. I have heard that some people who get really into lucid dreaming wind up regretting it and have to "break the cycle" further down the line. I have even heard some stories of people who can't tell if they're dreaming or if they're in reality anymore.
