Is it normal that i cant sleep?

I try to go to bed at 10 every night. I lay there, no thoughts at all trying to sleep, tossing and turning, usually staying up untill 3 in the morning, when i finaly give way to sleep. The wierd thing is, i have to be hypnotised to sleep.

  • Really depends what you do, I work a lot of late shifts but I'm on a short hour contract atm so I get a lot of days off to and most days I have no reason to be up in the morning so I tend to stay up later as a result. I will say though that kind of sleeping pattern can increase things like depression, humans are naturally meant to awaken in the earlier part of the morning rather than say after 10 or evn in the afternoon. Dunno about you but even though I don't consider myself a morning person I tend to feel better if I do wake up inthe morning. Ther are ways to sort your sleeping pattern out though, the most common is to do an all nighter but then force yourself to stay awake the whole of the next day until a more normal time to go to bed.

Are you off for summer? I get the same way when I don't have any sort of scheduled to keep.

Some people just do not have what is called normal circadian rhythms. I'm like you, but I don't bother going to bed until 3AM, as I know I won't sleep.
For me, I find I can get by on much less sleep if I sleep between 3/4AM and 9/10AM, than when I was sleeping 9PM to 7AM.
Don't fight it, it's quite natural for some of us. Just use the extra time productively and you'll be way ahead of the game.
