Is it normal that i don't want a car in life?

I personally don't want one but yet my parents are forcing me to have one despite me saying no like a thousand times. I know having a car has its advantages but I don't want to have one just because my friends have a car.

Reasons why? I mean are you scared of getting in an accident? Think it will cost to much? Addicted to your phone instead?

Just curious. I like the freedom it offers. Plus it's essential because I live in the middle of nowhere.

It's normal to not want one, but you might need one if the places you need to go to aren't a walking or bike distance.

I'm 26 & I never owned a car, I know how to drive but i've never needed to. I can literally walk/bike ride everywhere I need to go.

Your parents are buying you a car and you’re upset because it will make you “just like everybody else”? This, my dude, is what’s known as “first world problems”.

I don't really want one either, driving makes me nervous. But they also suspended my license because I'm an epileptic, so I probably won't be getting a car anytime soon anyway. My fiance is going to have to chauffeur me lol

Ive experienced getting forced to myself, even though I lack the focus to be a safe driver for more than short distances, and i've never wanted to be one. Of course it's easier to get places especially when one doesn't live in a big city but it's a very unnecessarily high cost if you really don't want or need it.

If you live in a large city with lots of Lyft/Uber drivers at all times - it is often cheaper not to own a car and just use rideshare driving.

If you have a license you can rent a car now and then for an out of town trip.

If you don't have a license you can hire a car for an out of town trip as well. Just more expensive than renting a car.

If you live in small towns or rural in the United States... you having any kind of life almost depends on having a car,

If you are afraid of accidents or not using the car correctly. You can take some advanced driving classes on accident avoidance and improved driving skills - where you get individual training.

If your worried about drinking and driving. You can install a device that requires a breathalyzer test before you can start the car. People with DUI's are often ordered by the Court to install these systems in all their vehicles as a condition of a limited drivers license.

Whatever your fear... there are ways to address it.

But, again. I don't think a car is a worthwhile investment if you are living in an area with adequate ride-share services. Cars are expensive to own, insure, repair, etc...

If you can afford one... they do offer a lot of freedom.
