Is it normal that i hate games where you don't know how much freedom to expect?

I generally prefer "sandbox" games like the early the Elder Scrolls titles. But I don't have anything against games where you play a predefined character, as long as they're up front about it. But I can't stand games that have RPG trappings like multiple dialog choices but then unexpectedly take away your choice at key moments through cut scenes, "but thou must" dialog loops, or cheap tricks.

Oh my god, I am literally the EXACT same way! I can't stand not being able to customize a character of my own and having to play by a predetermined story line. Fallout 3 is my absolute favorite game because it's completely sandbox type and you can just explore an open wasteland, it's amazing. I find games that aren't open world type like Skyrim and Fallout are games I get bored of easily.

I want to make my own story in a game, not follow an identical one like the millions of other people do who purchase the game and have to settle for one uniform character.

I am a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls games, especially Morrowind. Nothing else I've ever played allows the freedom that this game did, and I agree -- too many games pull a bait and switch with you. You think you're going to enjoy an open world, but instead you're on rails the whole time. Hate it when that happens!

I'll sort of excuse the BioWare games for occasionally manipulating dialogue choices to lead you in a particular direction. Let's face it, it would be game-breaking to have Morrigan stick around through the end of Dragon Age: Origins, for instance. Some games do rely far too heavily on the illusion of choice, though.

  • Developers don't give a crap anymore. And it's completely understandable. Nothing satisfies people anymore and the ideas have been depleted long ago. That's why they put so much in graphics. To compensate for the boring and repetitive gameplay and storyline.

My kind of girl... Smell that breath is fun when the breather has extreme butt breath aka halitosis
Nose goblin theatre sounds interesting too. Are unique scents involved?

  • Funny people keep mentioning BioWare... I hadn't put the pieces together before, but they may well be the biggest perpetrator of this. Anyone remember in Baulder's Gate 2? In the first city there was this freak who runs up shouting "Koooo!", obviously he was mentally handicapped and no use to us, but for some reason we were obliged to follow him. That pretty much killed my remaining enthusiasm for the game. (I was less than pleased by the heavy-handed plot setup anyway.)

Bioware are strange like that. They are capable of some amazing games with brilliant storytelling but then sometimes they have all the subtlty of a Michael bay film

Like the ending of mass effect 3 did? FUCK YOU BIOWARE. My favorite games, over 150 hours of gameplay on 1 and 2 through multiple playthroughs, building all the story all for some kid to show up and give an info dump in the last 10 mins of the game say oh hi shepard do you want a, b, or c, all for a different coloured explosion. Not to mention the plot holes, lack of closure or the fact that the choices everyone had made throughout the game didn't matter because it was basically a set ending, plus Casey hudson said that they weren't going to do a "lost" and leave unresolved questions, he also said that the choices would matter and affect the ending so that there wouldn't be a set a b or c ending. A year later and it still gets on my tits. Nerd rant over

I'm a GTA-Freak.... And honestly.. Screw all those fancy RPG's that wants you to talk with Edgar longballs for 10 minutes about where "Sitrana" or W/E the hell they name those freaks went..

What i love about GTA is... W/E city Rockstar turns into "Their version of the city".. Is ONE big playground.

Well in IV it was not (Well not too much unfortunately).. But with the new V coming up.. Can't wait.

Oh I know those games. I think they are fun! It is kind of playing a card game. I generally prefer these type of games I feel like I am taking a quiz and I have to guess right to get to the end of the tunnel.
