Is it normal that i have a fear of being pricked by an hiv positive needle?

Ever since I read this fake hoax online about people being pricked by HIV positive needles (About three years ago), I've this huge fear of them! I even have nightmares about it. i.e., Last night I dreamt I opened a pill tablet and somehow got poked by one and attacked to the needle a little paper said: "Congratulations, you have been infected by HIV."
Is this normal...?

That wasn't a dream puny archaic beast, we had erased your memory. It seems our Amnetron is malfunctioning. Sleep soundly human, for soon you will forget all about our plans to infect everyone with HIV for some reason.

Have you seen the Needle Trap scene from the movie Saw 2? If not, then you should watch it on YouTube.

Ever since I heard this thing on the news about this person having to go for shots, because they stepped on a used needle on the beach, I always worry about walking on the beach and getting pricked by someones dirty, used needle. Yuck! It makes me cringe just thinking about it.

    no sorry it is not
you wll not have hiv from needles in your home or the hospital only you should worry only if you hang out with people that take drugs

even if any of your friends had hiv he would tell you to be carefull if touched a needle

Just to add a tid bit to this post, I just went through a class in college on HIV and the while history of it. HIV can live in dry blood for up to a week. So even a dry needle is not safe. Also a little statistic...1 in 10 people sitting in a room are HIV positive and don't even know it. It's not a disease to take lightly, be careful when sleeping with someone, the best way is to go get checked together before you have any type of sexual contact.

Many years ago when my daughter was five, at her preschool, a kid found some dirty needles. The teacher took them away from the child. He was still holding them when my daughter came up to him. He turned to talk to her and stabbed her with one. I got a call at work from my husband. The school called him. He had to tell them to call the police. Needless to say we were panicky because it was before everyone knew more about aids. I was a pest to the police dept. And our state leaders. Anyway, finally they said she needed hepatitis shots. The needles were dry when found. Had her tested for aids anyway. Twice.

I see your concerns. But, what you do have to worry about is hepatitis. Not to freak you out any more, but you will not get HIV unless you are sharing needles with an HIV person.

Don't worry. Although this has happened, it's incredibly rare. If you're going to fear anything, fear unprotected sex with someone you don't yet know. That's a big ole needle waiting to happen.

I'm going to cause major contraversy by saying this but ... condoms do NOT protect you from HIV as the virus is smaller than the spaces between the rubber molecules.

The UK Govt had to take off their TV ads for AIDS as they misleading the public and I think it was Dr Christopher Green who asked 200 sexologists for a show of hands, as to how many would have sex with someone known to be HIV +ve. Not one hand went up. The statistics are that the partner will be infected within 18 months. However, I heard there is now treatment and it's not necessarily a death sentence anymore.

Research this on the internet if you don't believe me.

LOL. oh geez. This isn't true. This is why you should get your "facts" from somewhere other than the internet. HIV transmission is likely to happen because of misuse rather than the composition of the condom. Geez I just want to through one of my microbiology books at you right now. "The ability of latex condoms to prevent transmission has been scientifically established in laboratory studies as well as in epidemiologic studies of uninfected persons at very high risk of infection because they were involved in sexual relationships with HIV-infected partners." If you must use the internet, go to the CDC. Latex, rubber, whatever is made of molecules. Viruses are made of molecules and actually HIV is rather large compared to say picornavirus. (google that) So what, you think HIV passes through the bonds in latex?

I'll be honest, I didn't know that. I stand by what I said, that we should not have unprotected sex with people we don't know, but I didn't know that wearing a condom could be classed as unprotected for HIV. Did any of these guys come up with a safe way of having sex, by the way?

Most condoms do not protect from STDs period. So using a condom does not always protect you from sexually transmitted diseases.

'Fraid not! Apart from sex toys, the condon rubber would not be flexible at all if they were to make the gaps small enough to block the virus.

Funny that someone thought my comment was inappropriate or mean. I thought it would be of interest and helpful for people to know!

There is zero chance of this happening by accident, so long as you don't walk barefoot through a needle-covered street you'll be okay. Doctors and the like don't reuse needles, so you're okay in that regard.

As long as you don't pick up needles off tge street or share them you're fine.
