Is it normal that i have a severe phobia of rust?

I really, REALLY can't stand rusty metal. Even if the rust is smooth looking (like it couldn't hurt you if you touched it.)
I refuse to touch it. I'm not afraid I'll get cut or anything, I'm just scared to touch rusty things in general.
I think it's super disgusting and I'll start to get really nervous if I'm in a situation in which I might have to touch something rusty.

Rust is nasty. I think it's normal enough. Phobias are logical fears anyway.

A phobia is an irrational fear that is not based on logic.

    Not normal at all.
You have really picked a phobia that keeps you far from a lot of interesting things to do. Even just walking down a city street, there are rusty parking meters, gates, hinges, poles and drains. Certainly no place for you on a farm or ranch, or on a boat. Even a ski resort will have rusty stuff around, as would a beach resort.
I guess you are pretty much stuck in your room, huh?

Even apples? It looks unpleasant but it tastes all the same. One way to counteract the effects of oxidation on apples is with lemon.

Rust can give you tetanus. Not a weird phobia if you ask me .

I am glad you posted this because I have always HATED rust. Long ago when I was in high school, I vowed to find a way to keep my cars from rusting. I would treat one side of my car with one thing, and treat the other side with something else. Then continue the experiment with different treatments on my next car. It took several years to find the best anti-rust treatment.

The best treatment is Cosmoline. You can make your own Cosmoline out of Vaseline, a bit of automatic transmission fluid, and some mineral spirits. Read more about it on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmoline
