Is it normal that i'm a 24 y/o masculine guy but want to buy a hamster (as a pet)?

I just think they're so adorable and I love seeing them run around in their tubes and seeing all these fancy, complex cage designs.

Nothing wrong with a dude wanting a hamster. The only things that matter is if you have the money, knowledge, and time to take care of one.

Why do so many men have such a tragically frail sense of their own masculinity? In what way is a hamster a threat? And why do you care so much?

Hamsters tend to bite. Rats on the other hand are sweet angels.

Sadly they dont live too long, and get cancer a lot.Mice and gerbils are also way nicer than Hamsters. It would be awesome to have a capybara

Also if you have more then one, sometimes if they are in a stressful environment they can attack each other.

Unfortunately i know someone who had this happened after they got a dog and the dog would jump up at the cage and stress them out

Yeah and apparently rodents don't all get along with each other, I learned that the hard way when I was a kid. Rats supposedly will even eat mice if they're put together. I always thought they'd all be friends. :( But bunnies and Guinea pigs can be friends!

I had a rat, and some mice who were friends, but she kinda treated the mice like her babies.

Rats stink though. I love them too and find them very cute but everyone I know who has them has a rat smelling house.

Really, it's been so long that I can hardly remember. Ferrets do have a very distinctive smell though.

Maybe it's one of those things that you don't smell if you live with it. Like how I'm sure my house stinks of cat but I'm just used to it.

Awe. Dude, just get a hamster. Life is too short to worry about what other people think. In my experience pets are always worth the extra hassle. They bring a lot of joy.

Doesn't seem very masculine to me, but that term is loosely defined anyway so who cares I guess.

  • I had guinea pigs when I was about 14, then I had rabbits at 15.
