Is it normal that i prefer driving manual (stick shift) cars over automatics?
I've always enjoyed driving manual cars and everytime I drive an automatic, I feel slightly bored!

I alway driven manual. It is hard to explain when I drive an automatic as I feel I don't have full control. You could almost say, it feels like having a car without a steering wheel.
Once I forgotten I was driving an automatic once when I was at a traffic light. The light went green and my "automatic" reaction was to push the crutch (which is obviously not in an automatic) and grab the gear stick to put it into gear. I banged my foot on the left footrest and put the automatic car into park. Let's say.... the vehicles behind me weren't too pleased.
It depends on the car. I would not want a big old Cadillac with a stick, just like I wouldn't want a corvette with an automatic.
I have automatics now but I still manually downshift to slow down. An automatic will handle more torque, go down a dragstrip faster, and not need clutch replacement. It's easier to rebuild an automatic too.
But yes, I miss a stick shift.
Also, automatics have cruise control.
I concur, preference depends on the car.
Some standards do too. I had an 87 mustang with a stick and cruise.
Older non-computerized cars had a problem (my mustang did too) where if you slipped it into neutral without pushing the clutch in (which disengaged cruise like the brake) the car would naturally slow down out of gear, the cruise would call for more throttle quickly going wide open and the engine would run away.
I'd do it for fun once in a while and catch it before it got out of control, but I'm sure some folks had trouble with it. I had an automatic that I could do the same with, but that was a 77.
It makes no logical sense to me to want to drive a manual transmission, especially if you live in the city. With all of the other things you need to concentrate on while driving, why give yourself more work? How about we go back to manual brakes and steering too so you can really "feel" what you're doing. The other downside is being a passenger in a manual car. No matter how smooth a person thinks they can shift, they can't shift as smoothly as an automatic and the passengers often feel nauseous with all that shifting up and down. Positively horrible.
I prefer manual transmission. Part of me appreciates how it's a lost art in America, but for all intensive purposes, it's best to have the added control over the engine. Although if I had my way, I'd have a car with paddle shifters instead of a stick.
Haha, I'm the same way. It's kinda weird - I like computers and technology in general (I know a few programming languages), but when it comes to cars, I'm completely old school. I prefer stick shift, roll down windows, never use remote access keys. . . I don't really know why.
i see the allure of driving stick. You have much more control over your vehicle than with an automatic. Too bad i cant drive stick.
That is a skill I have been meaning to add to my resume. I just keep forgetting that I want to learn how to drive one.
I'm old school. I prefer a clutch, manual lockouts on a 4wd, manual windows, etc.
New cars in the U.S. are becoming progressively more controling than the driver.
I have always driven a manual, but occasionally driven automatics too, there are good points to both, but as I get older the allure of the auto becomes greater!
I sometimes wish my lorry was auto, especially in London traffic!
I live in England where the majority of cars are manual, it's quite rare to find an automatic, I would love to drive an automatic as I'm quite lazy.
I'm with you, man. I love a stick. Its been a few years since I've had one and I miss it so much :'( *sniffle*
Only driven two automatics. It's nothing like the same, is it?
Much better to be in proper control. Automatics tend to waste fuel a bit as well.
